The Lead Layout Artist is responsible for leading the layout team and the story-telling, shot sequence continuity, and presentation as part of the VFX pipeline for feature film and/or high-level television. Utilizing assets from the modeling department and/or camera track from the matchmove department, they create a rough pass of the shot as a whole as well as packages necessary components for use in later departments. While camera animation and composition is the main objective, they may be required to create simple animation, lighting, and FX in order to convey key story points. As a Feature Animation Editor at DNEG, you will play a crucial role in merging the requirements and responsibilities of VFX edit and Story edit. Collaborating closely with the Production team and Story editorial, your primary task will involve handling internal editorial tasks essential for the show, in coordination with an Assistant Editor. Your responsibilities will include managing ingest and client deliveries while maintaining a strong working relationship with the clients 1st Assist. You will oversee the maintenance of databases, ensuring that cut information is up to date and effectively communicated to the crew. Additionally, you will coordinate the team and the project, tracking all items and processes to ensure their accurate completion, while staying informed about the schedules and turnovers of the production. To excel in this role, you must possess proven experience in working within an Animation or VFX Editorial Department on high-end long-form productions such as TV or Feature Films. Proficiency in Avid Media Composer is essential, with knowledge of other non-linear editing platforms like Adobe Premiere and Final Cut considered a bonus. A good understanding of Film and HD video formats, frame rates, resolutions, and various video codecs is required. Experience in encoding, transcoding, ingesting, and conforming outputs from Avid is crucial, along with solid IT skills and Mac literacy. Moreover, you should have a strong creative eye to suggest cut developments and the ability to think quickly to address any challenging situations that may arise. Familiarity with editorial tools, the Animation process, VFX pipeline, shot tracking databases like Shotgun or Filemaker, and experience in cutting together boards and/or previs will be advantageous. While sound mixing awareness and temp foley recording are not mandatory, relevant experience in these areas would be beneficial.
