The position of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within the ATRI Engineering Mechatronics & Motion Systems division in India / Ahmedabad requires a candidate to lead the design of motorized, servo-controlled, and gear-driven assemblies for handheld, portable, and robotic applications. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the ideal candidate should possess technical expertise in mechanical systems, collaborative skills, and a systems-level mindset. Responsibilities include designing motor-driven and gear-based assemblies for high-performance applications, selecting motors, gears, and actuation mechanisms, optimizing gearing and housings for reliability, and supporting robotic subsystem development. The engineer will also conduct tolerance analysis, mechanical FEA, and kinematic modeling, collaborate on firmware integration for motion control systems, and build and test mechanical prototypes. The candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical system design with a focus on motorized assemblies, servos, and gear trains. Proficiency in CAD tools, knowledge of motor types, experience in mechanical analysis and lab-based testing, and a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field are required. Hands-on experience in robotic arms or motion systems, familiarity with motion controllers and coding in Python or C/C++ are preferred qualifications. You should have 5 to 8 years of experience in Horizontal form fill machines, Vertical form filling machines, or packaging machine design. In-depth knowledge of machine design calculations and concepts is essential for this role. You should be skilled in preparing 3D and 2D drawings using SolidWorks software. A good understanding of general tolerance, dimensioning practices, fits, and allowances is required. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in making machines is necessary. Experience in using PDM/PLM software and understanding automation used in manufacturing/packaging for FMCG, Pharma, and consumer products is preferred. You should be able to design assemblies, structures, and units such as conveyors, pick-and-place systems, and machines independently. As an Automation Service Engineer, you will be responsible for testing, installation, and commissioning of systems involving electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic components. Your expertise in Control Panels, PLCS, VFDs, Servos, and Vision systems will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of automation solutions for new and existing manufacturing processes.
