Senior Staff Back End Engineer

As a Senior Staff Engineer at SolarWinds, you will play a crucial role in the Observability Platform team, where you will provide technical leadership and drive architectural decisions that will shape the future of how companies understand and monitor their distributed systems. Your expertise in building and scaling observability systems, along with experience in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and high-scale data processing, will be instrumental in this role. Your responsibilities will include leading the design and architecture of the observability platform, focusing on scalability, reliability, and real-time data processing capabilities. You will design and implement complex distributed systems that handle high-scale telemetry data ingestion and analysis using technologies like Kotlin, Go, SQL/NoSQL databases, and cloud-native infrastructure. Additionally, you will partner with product leadership to translate business strategy into technical roadmaps and implement best practices that enhance platform reliability and performance. Mentorship and leadership will be key aspects of your role, as you will provide guidance, conduct architecture reviews, and establish engineering best practices to drive technical excellence across teams. You will also identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in distributed systems to ensure that the observability platform remains resilient and highly performant at scale. Collaboration with senior engineers, tech leads, and cross-functional teams will be essential to influence technical direction across multiple domains. To excel in this role, you should have strong proficiency in Kotlin and/or Go, with fundamentals in both backend and frontend development. Extensive experience in designing and implementing distributed systems with a focus on metrics, logging, and tracing at scale is required. Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, as well as cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes and service mesh, will be beneficial. Experience with high-throughput data processing systems, real-time data pipelines, and leadership in technical initiatives are also essential. Your ability to articulate complex technical concepts to various audiences, collaborate across teams, and influence without direct authority will be crucial. Understanding business impact and balancing short-term and long-term priorities while making appropriate technical trade-offs will also be important in this role.
