Senior Service Delivery Engineer, SRE

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Service Delivery at PhonePe, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for building, managing, and scaling the production systems to ensure seamless services for users nationwide. Your role will involve owning the maintenance and operational activities of multiple services, encompassing various components and technologies, while adhering to predefined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Your primary responsibilities will include building and managing distributed systems like Galera, Nginx, Aerospike, ElasticSearch, and RMQ. You will be tasked with deploying operating system vulnerability fixes, performing routine database maintenance, configuring proxies, and understanding the critical nature of production infrastructure. Additionally, you should be prepared to work night shifts, participate in on-call rotations, automate operational tasks as needed, simplify complex procedures, and mentor junior engineers. To excel in this role, you are required to possess strong hands-on experience in Linux/Unix System Administration, Linux CLI tools, virtualization using kvm/qemu, disk and LVM management, system services, package management, file permissions, crontab, DNS concepts, Salt/Ansible for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), database administration, scripting in Bash/Python, distributed database systems like MariaDB, containerization technologies like Docker, proxy technologies like Nginx, version control with GIT, networking concepts, Linux-based firewalls, HTTP & TLS security, and troubleshooting skills. In addition to technical expertise, soft skills such as effective interpersonal communication, project ownership, leadership, process and SOP creation, sensitive production change management, and mentorship are highly valued in this role. A minimum of 4-7 years of hands-on experience in Linux/Unix System Administration is required to be considered for this position. This position is based in Bangalore and entails on-call shifts on a rotational basis, covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
