Position: Senior R&D Engineer

Role Overview:

The R&D Engineer will contribute to developing new concepts, building prototypes, validating ideas, and improving mechanical systems used in Special Purpose Machines. The role fits an engineer who enjoys experimenting, creating proof-of-concept models, and converting innovative ideas into practical, testable solutions. The engineer will work closely with the R&D team, design teams, and production teams to transform concepts into functioning prototypes with clear documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in brainstorming sessions, idea evaluation, and feasibility studies.
• Develop early-stage concept sketches, mechanism ideas, and functional layouts.
• Build

  Proof of Concept (POC)

   models to test fundamental principles before full design.
• Evaluate multiple design approaches and suggest the most viable solution based on performance, cost, and manufacturability.
• Convert approved concepts into detailed prototype designs using SolidWorks.
• Work hands-on to build mechanical prototypes with support from fabrication and assembly teams.
• Conduct functional testing, endurance trials, and validation checks on prototypes.
• Capture test data, observe failure modes, and support iterative improvements.
• Coordinate material procurement, fabricated parts, and bought-out components required for prototype builds. 
• Prepare 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for internal builds and vendor development.
• Perform basic engineering calculations, tolerance checks, and mechanism evaluations.
• Support design optimisation to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost reduction.
• Maintain complete documentation for each prototype stage: concept notes, test results, revisions, and POC outcomes.
• Prepare test reports, engineering change notes, and validation sheets.
• Ensure proper version control and traceability of design evolution.
• Contribute to creating instruction manuals, assembly guidelines, and technical write-ups.
• Follow R&D documentation standards and ensure all work is properly recorded for future reference.
• Work with production, QC, automation, and procurement teams during prototype builds.
• Discuss design feasibility with senior engineers and implement feedback from the review.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks).
• Hands-on experience with prototype build, testing, and basic troubleshooting.
• Good understanding of mechanisms and machine elements.
• Documentation skills, including test logs, change notes, and reports.
