Backend Engineer Voice AI (Python)

Role Overview

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to build and scale the backend systems powering our real-time Voice AI platform. This role is highly hands-on and focuses on low-latency audio pipelines, telephony integrations, and high-concurrency backend services.

You will work at the intersection of backend engineering, real-time systems, and voice infrastructure, owning critical components that must be fast, reliable, and production-grade.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance backend services using Python
• Develop and operate real-time voice/audio pipelines, handling live audio frames and session state
• Integrate with telephony ecosystems (SIP, WebRTC, telephony APIs, call flows)
• Work with real-time streaming systems and event-driven architectures
• Build scalable APIs and services that handle high concurrency and low latency
• Design data models and persistence using relational databases
  Implement caching and performance optimizations for real-time workloads
• Deploy and operate cloud-native services on AWS or GCP
  Own production systems end-to-end: reliability, monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning

Required Skills & Experience

• 3-4 years of backend development experience
• Strong proficiency in Python (mandatory), especially for backend and async systems
• Experience building scalable, concurrent, real-time systems
• Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/MySQL)
• Experience with caching systems (Redis or equivalent)
• Familiarity with streaming or event-driven systems
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating services on AWS or GCP
• Strong CS fundamentals: concurrency, networking basics, data structures, and system design

Nice to Have / Bonus

• Hands-on experience with Pipecat
• Experience with LiveKit, WebRTC, or similar real-time media frameworks
• Exposure to telephony systems (SIP, RTP, Twilio, Jambonz, Telnyx, etc.)
• Understanding of audio processing concepts (audio frames, codecs, latency)
• Experience working on voice bots, voice assistants, or Voice AI platforms
• Familiarity with observability tools (logs, metrics, tracing)
