Senior Power BI Developer - +5 years of experience - Full remote - Contractor in USD

For an international project in Chennai, we are urgently looking for a Full Remote Senior Power BI Developer for designing, developing, and implementing interactive and visually compelling Power BI dashboards that support data-driven decision-making.

We are looking for a motivated contractor. Candidates need to be fluent in English.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Extract, transform, and load (ETL) large and complex datasets from multiple sources (SQL, Dremio, Databricks, Azure, etc.);
• Conduct detailed data profiling, cleaning, and validation to ensure consistency and completeness;
• Work with data engineers to enhance data pipelines and optimize query performance for reporting needs. Develop reusable data models and semantic layers for reporting;
• Design, develop, and publish Power BI dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights to business stakeholders;
• Create DAX measures, calculated columns, KPIs, and data relationships for dynamic and efficient analytics;
• Apply strong UI/UX principles to ensure dashboards are intuitive, visually engaging, and aligned with organizational branding;
• Develop parameterized reports and implement row-level security where applicable;
• Optimize dashboards for performance and scalability;
• Leverage Power BI service features such as gateways, workspaces, data refresh scheduling, and app publishing;
• Automate report generation and data updates using Power BI REST APIs or integration with Azure Data Factory;
• Collaborate with business users and technical teams to gather and refine requirements;

Profile:

• Bachelor or Master degree;
• +5 years of experience in Power BI development, with a proven portfolio of dashboards and reports;
• Strong experience in data mining, modeling, and transformation from complex, large-scale data sources;
• Proficiency in SQL and hands-on experience with ETL workflows;
• Knowledge of Dremio, Databricks, or Azure Data Lake/ADF is a strong advantage;
• Strong understanding of data visualization principles and storytelling through data;
• Experience with Power Query (M language) and DAX;
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Strong communication and documentation abilities;
• Knowledge of Azure or cloud-based data platforms will be an added advantage;
• Familiarity with AI-powered visuals or integrating AI-driven insights within Power BI will be considered a strong plus;
• Fluent in English;
