Senior Nurse - Cardiac Thoracic Operation Theatre

Role & Responsibilities

• To assist in all Major and Minor Cardiac cases and preparation of the Cardio Thoracic Operation Theatre for operation as per OT Schedule, arrange the OT with necessary pharmacy, consumables and surgical instruments and implants for respective surgery, assist end-to-end CT OT Cases, take care of all the instruments and capital items, maintain all the register (Case register, Waste management etc.).
• To maintain the stock of all expendable and non-expendable and monitor sterility in theatre fixtures and maintain strict pre and post OP counts of Gauge, instruments and needles. Direct participation & Coordination in surgical procedures and ensuring cleaning protocols of the OT is followed Pre and Post Operatively at all times.
• To take regular feedback from the surgeons on requirements and for improvisation and knowledgeable about the lay-out of Operation Theatre Complex.
• To be aware of policies & protocols related to Pre Operative, Peri- Operative and Post Operative care.
• Adherence to protocols of surgical safety check list for all surgical patients and be competent in handling of instruments and other biomedical equipments.
• Ensure preventive maintenance and operational check being conducted for all equipments in the OT.
• To be aware of surveillance activities of operation theatre and analyse the same with ICN.
• Responsible for the assigned patients overall requirement and ensure patients needs are met.
• To supervise the sterilization of operation theatre and cleaning of instruments after the case and pack the same for autoclaving.
• To follow all the clinical instruction as per the Doctor's order on time which include:
  Vital Signs monitoring. Patient and Personal Hygiene. Following HICC protocol and other checklists. Structured entry in Nurses record. Right medication to right patient on time Sample collected and for processing. Safe transfusion. Safe infusion practices

Preferred Candidate Profile:

• Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery / Bachelor of Science - Nursing.
• Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in Karnataka State [should possess valid Karnataka Nursing Council Number].

Experience:

• Minimum 3 Years experience as Staff Nurse - Cardiac Thoracic Operation Theatre from NABH recognized Hospital.
• Demonstrates ability to practice in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures affecting Registered Nursing practice.
• Demonstrates ability to accept accountability and responsibility for own actions within Registered Nurses scope of practice and works within the Manipal Framework Competency Standards for a Registered Nurse.
• Evidence of participation in own professional development and commitment to maintaining competence and enhancement of skills.
• Demonstrates understanding of evidence-based best practice and its contribution to changing practice and policies within the organization.
• Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Ensures that the quality of care provided to patients is safe, efficient, effective, accessible, and timely and consumer focused.
• Demonstrates competence, confidence and accountability in the safe delivery of patient care.
