Senior Manager - Research & Development

Key Responsibilities:

1. R&D Leadership: Lead research and development in thin film coatings (AR, HR, filters, beamsplitters, etc.) across UV, VIS, and IR spectra.
2. Process Innovation: Design and optimize PVD, IAD, and e-beam processes to improve coating performance, yield, and durability.
3. Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve production coating challenges, material interactions, optical performance inconsistencies, and process drift issues.
4. Product Development: Define coating stacks and processes for new application segments, with a focus on durability, spectral performance, and cost-effectiveness.
5. Characterization & Analysis: Use tools such as spectrophotometers, ellipsometers, profilometers, and microscopes for thin film characterization and qualification.
6. Thought Leadership: Publish technical papers, file IP, and represent at conferences and industry forums.
7. Cross-functional Engagement: Collaborate with engineering, QA, and production to transfer R&D outputs into scalable production processes.
8. Customer & Marketing Interface: Support marketing and technical sales with product development inputs, customer engagement, and technical proposals.
9. New Product Line Strategy: Drive the roadmap for next-generation coating offerings based on market trends and internal capability.
10. Mentoring & Team Development: Mentor junior scientists and engineers, and help build a technically strong thin films R&D team.

Basic Qualifications:

1. Education:

• Ph.D. or M.Tech/M.Sc. in Physics, Materials Science, Optical Engineering, or Thin Film Technology.
• Specialization in thin films, vacuum deposition, or optical coatings is essential.

2. Experience:

• 1015+ years of experience in thin film R&D and production within a high-precision optics or photonics company.
• Deep expertise in PVD, e-beam, IAD, and related coating technologies.
• Proven track record in process development, stack design, and problem-solving in coating operations.
• Experience interfacing with customers or marketing on technical applications is preferred.

3. Key Competencies:

• Strong theoretical and practical understanding of thin film physics.
• Proficient in optical design software (e.g., Macleod, TFCalc, FilmStar, OptiLayer).
• Strong analytical skills, process control capability, and data interpretation.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
