Title:
Senior Engineer Air Compressor design/DevelopmentThe position will provide design engineering support for reciprocating air compressor design/development on C7.2-C18 size engines. The position will be located in Chennai. Focus of the assignment contribute to the design and development of Air compressor components and Interact with a global team of industry experts and contribute to the delivery of design projects.
Job Duties/Responsibilities May Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Design and development of Engine Air Compressors (Reciprocating Air Compressor)
- Understand the technical requirements and communicate with supplier for the development of Engine Air compressor
- Need to manage supplier, manufacturing & Product groups
- Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members and other cross functional teams in a concise and accurate manner
- Packaging study of Air compressor, Manage the supplier work, manage resourcing projects
- Perform design calculations, initiate ideas, support design failure model and effect analysis (DFMEA) and develop validation plan for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs
- Co-ordinate with validation/test engineers to evaluate the performance/durability of Air compressor
- Perform product maintenance in support of Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) - Factory CPI and field CPI issues
- Work with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and Process partners to understand and document the requirements
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, quality, purchasing during part development
- Work with simulation team to plan and deliver simulation activity (not responsible for execution of Simulation)
Educational Requirement
- BE Mechanical engineering with minimum 9 to 12 years of relevant experience in engine industry (or)
- ME / MTech Mechanical engineering (specialization in Engineering design/Product design/thermal engineering) with minimum 7 years of relevant experience in engine industry (ideal candidate)
Skill Sets/Competencies (Must to have)
- Thorough Product knowledge on Engine Air Compressors necessary
- Good Product knowledge of Core engine components (5C components) and Engine Air system components
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Basic Knowledge of Casting, Forging, Machining, Surface Finishing and Heat Treatment Processes
- Proficient in modelling of castings using CREO
- Knowledge of applicable simulation tools like Stress Analysis, Heat Transfer, Thermo Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) or Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) etc.
- Knowledge on Data extraction, regression analysis and problem solving
- Ability to apply GD&T based on the functional requirement
- Organized, meticulous and attention to detail
- Ability to not only do the actual design work but also able to manage and delegate some of the work (as needed basis) to the team members and thoroughly able to review their work and make sure they meet the requirements of the design
Skill Sets/Competencies (Nice to have)
- Good product knowledge on various engine sub-systems
- Tolerance stack-up analysis
- Familiar with concept to detailed design for New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Familiar with APQP/PPAP processes
- Familiar with Value analysis/Value engineering techniques
- Reliability analysis
- Adequate knowledge on external standards applicable for castings/ forgings
- Familiar with Teamcenter or equivalent engineering data management tool
TOP CANDIDATES Will Have:
- Advanced degree from reputed institution
- 5+ years of Engine Air Compressor design & development working with global / regional teams
- Experience in working with regional suppliers for the development of key Engine Air compressor components like Block, head, crank & connecting rod etc.
- Good knowledge of cross functional roles in domains such as Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, related to engines
- Engine Air compressor component validation and failure analysis skills
