Description
Key Responsibilities: -Write and optimize PL/SQL stored procedures for Sybase IQ and convert them into T-SQL stored procedures for SQL Server, ensuring that the functionality is preserved and optimized in the new environment. -Lead the debugging and troubleshooting of complex stored procedures, views, and functions during the migration process to ensure they perform as expected in SQL Server. -Ensure that PL/SQL stored procedures and T-SQL stored procedures are optimized for performance, adhering to best practices for query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and database design. -Take ownership of the migration of complex database objects (tables, views, functions, stored procedures) and large datasets from Sybase IQ to SQL Server, ensuring that data integrity and performance are maintained throughout. -Analyze and identify potential performance bottlenecks in existing Sybase IQ stored procedures and work to optimize them before migration to SQL Server. -Collaborate with database administrators and developers to resolve migration issues and ensure the smooth transition of database objects and data. -Implement SQL Server performance tuning techniques, including indexing strategies, query optimization, and partitioning, to ensure the migrated database performs optimally at scale. -Contribute to the development and execution of testing plans, including stress testing, performance validation, and data integrity checks on migrated data and stored procedures. -Document the migration process, including key steps, lessons learned, troubleshooting steps, and best practices to ensure future migrations are efficient and well-managed. -Provide guidance to junior engineers and team members on PL/SQL and T-SQL stored procedure writing and optimization techniques. Qualifications: -Bachelordegree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. -8+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or Database Developer, with a focus on PL/SQL and T-SQL stored procedures. -Extensive experience in writing and optimizing PL/SQL stored procedures for Sybase IQ and adapting them to T-SQL stored procedures for SQL Server. -Strong understanding of SQL Server, including expertise in query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and performance tuning. -Proven ability to debug, troubleshoot, and optimize complex stored procedures, functions, and views in PL/SQL and T-SQL. -Experience working with large datasets and complex database objects during migration processes. -Solid understanding of Sybase IQ database architecture and its migration to SQL Server. -Strong troubleshooting skills, particularly in data integrity, performance, and compatibility during migration. -Experience with migration tools and processes for moving large datasets from Sybase IQ to SQL Server. -Utilize BCP OUT and BCP IN for efficient data transfer between Sybase IQ and SQL Server, ensuring large datasets are moved quickly and accurately. -Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers and DBAs. Preferred Skills: -Experience with cloud databases (e.g., Azure SQL Server or other cloud platforms). -Familiarity with data security, backup strategies, and disaster recovery in SQL Server environments. -Experience with performance profiling tools and database monitoring. Good to have: Experience with Full Convert or other similar migration tools.
