The Senior GIS Consultant will be part of the Transformation & Digital Insights team under PPA and will perform a range of functions to ensure delivery on projects. They will work flexibly within a well-established team, providing expertise in GIS technologies and managing and guiding members of the team in data preparation, data management, analysis and data presentation to ensure technical GIS delivery.The post-holder will support the GIS element of our work on major projects and will act as a trusted client advisor. They will also be responsible for working with our WSP Project Managers and other disciplines to ensure technical delivery on those projects. They will be responsible for providing guidance and solutions to satisfy project requirements as well as ensuring adherence to existing processes. They will have the ability to influence and persuade senior stakeholders in the benefits of identified solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide GIS support to all areas of the business as required
- Assist in developing efficient working practices to provide industry leading, best value services to our clients.
- Undertaking GIS mapping, analysis, data management, geoprocessing, and data visualizations
- Supporting and participating in the designing and development of the geospatial database
- Support the teams in designing, coding, integrating, testing, and deploying bespoke GIS functionality, scripts, tools, and web applications in answer to client requirements.
- Preparing and coordinating work for GIS staff based in the UK and overseas for internal and external client
- Develop and maintain QA on datasets and outputs on own and junior members deliverables
- Maintaining up-to-date and accurate geospatial documentation, SOP, best practices, training materials and user guide
- Providing GIS technical mentoring to junior GIS staff
- Contributing to the technical development of the GIS team through sharing ideas and innovations
- Undertake own continuous professional development and stay up to date with the latest GIS developments
Qualifications
Essential SkillsWe are looking for a self-motivated individual with strong technical skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills. With a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, a member of a relevant professional institution, and 8+ years of demonstrable experience.Knowledge and experience of the following are essential:
- Core principles of GIS and GIS data management.
- Advanced level of proficiency and experience in ESRI-based products and open-source products.
- Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS Desktop, Geodatabases, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
- Working Experience with a variety of vector and raster datasets and knowledge of UK GIS datasets.
- Understanding of relational databases and enterprise geodatabase design and development
- Geospatial data processing and analysis with Python using Arcpy.
- Experience in publishing, managing, and consuming services i.e., map, feature, geoprocessing, etc.
- Good experience in configuring and developing cross-platform web applications using Experience Builder, Enterprise Sites / Hub, Operation Dashboard, and Story Map.
- Working knowledge of scripting and automation in ESRI platform
- Experience in setting up mobile data collection using Collector for ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey123
- Basic knowledge of GIS user management,and troubleshooting in Desktop, web, and mobile GIS.
- Identifying innovative solutions to problems and driving the development of these.
- Customer focussed approach to quality and service.
- Proactive approach to developing new skills and keeping up to date with technology.
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365 and project management tool
- Mentoring and supporting GIS professionals within the team
- Experience in creating support documentation relating to SOP, trainings and user guides.E
