Job Title: Senior Cobol Developer Experience : 6 to 10 years Job Description: The Senior COBOL Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining COBOL-based applications. This role requires advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with COBOL programming, legacy systems, and a deep understanding of database management systems, as well as the ability to lead and mentor junior developers. Key Responsibilities: Development Maintenance Design, develop, and maintain COBOL applications, modules, and batch programs in a mainframe environment. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code to meet project specifications. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve performance issues within COBOL applications. Perform system analysis and collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications System Enhancements Optimization Optimize existing COBOL programs to improve efficiency and system performance. Propose and implement system enhancements that improve functionality, reduce technical debt, and modernize legacy systems. Collaboration Mentorship Provide leadership and guidance to junior and mid-level developers, reviewing their code and helping them develop their technical skills. Collaborate with other team members, including project managers, business analysts, and other developers, to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions Testing Documentation Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing to ensure application reliability. Write and maintain technical documentation and user manuals for COBOL programs and systems. Legacy System Management Oversee the maintenance and evolution of critical legacy systems that utilize COBOL. Collaborate with teams working on integrating legacy systems with newer technologies. Problem-Solving Address system bugs and issues raised by the quality assurance team or end-users. Participate in root cause analysis and resolution of production issues related to COBOL applications. Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Experience : Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in COBOL development, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions. Hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL (Job Control Language), DB2, CICS (Customer Information Control System), IMS, and other mainframe technologies. Experience with mainframe tools such as Endevor, File-AID, or other similar platforms. In-depth knowledge of batch processing, file handling, and mainframe job scheduling. Familiarity with Agile or Waterfall software development methodologies Skills : Programming Languages: Expert-level proficiency in COBOL; familiarity with modern languages or frameworks is a plus (e.g., Java, Python, or web-based technologies). Database Technologies: Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., DB2, VSAM, IMS) and SQL queries. Tools Software: Knowledge of source control tools (e.g., Git, SVN), debugging tools, and performance tuning. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
