Scrub Nurse (CTOT)

Sterile Field Preparation: Ensuring the OR is sterile by cleaning, setting up equipment, and preparing instruments and trays. Instrument Management: Preparing and passing instruments, sponges, and other necessary items to the surgeon during the procedure. Patient Comfort and Safety: Communicating with the patient to ensure their comfort and reassurance, and confirming necessary checks like informed consent, NPO status, and allergies before surgery. Collaboration with the Surgical Team: Working closely with the circulating nurse and surgeon, anticipating their needs, and ensuring a smooth and efficient procedure. Equipment and Supplies: Ensuring the circulating nurse has checked equipment and supplies, and preparing the OR for the surgery. Sterile Technique: Maintaining sterility through scrubbing, gowning, and gloving, and receiving sterile equipment from the circulating nurse. Post-operative Care: Assisting in post-operative care, including sponge counts, instrument checks, and preparing for the next procedure.
