The primary duties performed by MEP Engineers are listed below. HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Expert Electrical Power and Lighting Fire Alarm Expertise Energy Management Plumbing Attention to Details Responsive in Nature MEP Engineer Role MEP Design Engineer is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications per the project’s requirements. MEP Engineer is accountable for managing to oversee the work of subordinate staff. MEP Engineer should prepare plans along with the specified and estimated cost of plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and general piping system. Advise the staff designer, supervisor, inspector and contract service provider regarding the installation and maintenance of the MEP system. Analyze mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering problems & solutions. Identify issues in the design, planning, management and delivering multiple projects. Preparing and delivering effective presentations. Communicate with the Project Director regarding any technical glitch that might hamper the construction progress. Continually review the construction schedule during the progress of the site works regarding MEP services and report to the Project Director. MEP Design Engineer has to manage the day-to-day work of the MEP team. Take part in risk workshops and report any risks associated with MEP installations or general projects to the Project Director. MEP Engineers must prepare technical clarifications to suit on-site construction and coordination issues. MEP Engineer has to monitor safety and health on the site. Record and report any breaches to the Project Manager. MEP Engineer has the right to stop the construction work if he notices any unsafe practices are being followed. Be available to undertake off-site inspections of proposed equipment and materials as may be deemed necessary by the Project Manager. Maintain an ongoing list of mechanical service defects for the contractor’s remedial action. Undertake final project snagging and prepare a list of defects for the contractor’s action. Attend project, site progress, and any mechanical services-related technical meetings directed by the project manager. As required, prepare draft site/engineer’s instructions for the mechanical building services and issue them to the Project Manager. Provide advice to the Project Director regarding any mechanical services related to variable costs that the Contractor may claim during the works. Supervision and Labor Management · Oversee and coordinate all activities related to piping work, including digging, sand removal, and concrete work, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards. · Continuously monitor and accurately record the performance and output of each labourer, providing feedback and guidance as needed. · Assign daily work tasks to labourers based on the Site Engineer's instructions and supervise their execution to ensure tasks are performed correctly and efficiently. · Conduct daily briefings with labourers to clearly outline the day's tasks, address any concerns or questions, and reinforce safety and quality expectations. · Allocate daily responsibilities to workers and supervise the labourers to best utilize manpower and materials. · Understand and carry out written and oral instructions and monitor discipline at the work site to prevent absenteeism, unsafe work practices, and idleness. Daily Reporting · Submit detailed daily evening reports to the Site In-Charge, covering the work completed, labourer output, any encountered issues, and overall site conditions. · Maintain a comprehensive log of daily activities, documenting progress, material usage, and any deviations from the project plan to assist in future project planning and audits. Material and Safety Management · Collect necessary materials from the storekeeper for daily tasks, ensuring their safe transportation, handling, and return at the end of the day to prevent losses and damages. · Distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, belts, helmets, and gloves to labourers, ensuring that all workers wear the appropriate gear at all times. · Perform regular safety checks and inspections to enforce compliance with safety regulations, promptly addressing any safety hazards or violations. · Ensure proper storage, handling, and usage of materials to prevent damage, wastage, and ensure a clean and organized worksite. · Prevent wastage and misuse of equipment, materials, and tools. · Ensure workers are properly supplied with tools, equipment, and materials. Labor Welfare and Issue Resolution · Arrange for the provision of essential amenities for labourers, including clean drinking water, firewood for cooking, and adequate shelter to ensure a comfortable working environment. · Address and resolve any labour payment issues promptly and fairly, maintaining accurate records of payments and hours worked to avoid disputes. · Organize and facilitate training sessions on safety practices, efficient work techniques, and proper equipment usage to improve labourer skills and site safety. · Mediate disputes among labourers, fostering a positive and cooperative work environment to enhance productivity and morale. · Resolve problems when they arise. Continuous Improvements · Participate in continuous training and professional development programs to stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements. · Provide constructive feedback to management on operational challenges, offering practical solutions and strategies to address and overcome these obstacles.
