Job Description

Robotics/ Mechatronics Engineer + Subject Matter Expert (SME)

This is a full-time academic role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Course Development & Delivery:

    Design and deliver engaging lectures and practical sessions in Robotics, including areas such as robotic kinematics, dynamics, control systems, embedded programming, and perception.
  • Lab Management:

    Conduct and manage lab sessions using platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ROS (Robot Operating System), and simulation tools like Gazebo or Webots.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

    Work closely with faculty members, researchers, and industry partners to enhance the robotics curriculum and align it with industry demands.
  • Academic Excellence & Student Success:

    Mentor students, assist with robotics project work, and ensure their academic and technical growth.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    Collaborate with university administrators and Newton School representatives to drive innovation in robotics education.
  • Research & Innovation:

    Encourage students to engage in research, robotics competitions, and real-world prototyping challenges.

Qualifications & Experience Must-Have:

  • Prior experience as a Robotics Engineer, Embedded Systems Developer, or Software Developer with a focus on robotics applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and experience with microcontrollers and hardware integration.
  • Hands-on expertise with robotics hardware (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, sensors, actuators) and frameworks like ROS.
  • Solid understanding of robotics principles including control theory, localization, path planning, and automation.
  • Strong ability to simplify complex robotics concepts and communicate effectively with students.

Good-to-Have:

  • Prior teaching or mentoring experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Experience with AI/ML applications in robotics (e.g., computer vision, SLAM).
  • Familiarity with hardware prototyping, PCB design, or mechatronics systems.
  • Participation in or mentorship for robotics competitions (e.g., Robocon, RoboCup).
