We are looking for highly motivated and innovative Research Scientists to join our team in Bengaluru, focusing on advancing the state-of-the-art in multilingual, multicultural, and multimodal large language models (LLMs). You will engage in cutting-edge research on Gemini, specifically in the multilingual, multicultural, and multimodal domain (speech, vision, and text), with a direct impact on billions of users through Google products. This position is based in the Languages group at Google DeepMind India, which works on all aspects of LLM development, including pretraining, posttraining, evaluations, etc. The group has made impactful contributions to enhance Gemini's multilingual performance and various Google products such as Gemini App, Assistant, Search, etc. Additionally, foundational contributions have been made to Google Translate's largest expansion of 110 languages representing over 600 million speakers. Key responsibilities as a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind include developing and evaluating multilingual, multicultural, and multimodal LLMs, collaborating with a world-class team, contributing to real-world impact, and participating in the research community by sharing insights and engaging in external academic workshops and conferences. We are seeking a passionate and talented researcher with a strong foundation and proven ability to conduct impactful research in AI. You should embrace change, thrive under ambiguity, have a collaborative mindset, and be excited to work as part of a team to tackle ambitious research challenges. You should be eager to see your research contribute to real-world applications and driven by a desire to create positive change through AI. A Ph.D. (or equivalent research experience) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, a strong publication record in top-tier AI conferences or journals, solid understanding of deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and/or speech processing, experience with relevant ML frameworks such as JAX, TensorFlow, or PyTorch, and excellent communication and collaboration skills are required. Experience with multilingual, multicultural, and/or multimodal learning in LLMs, pretraining, post-training techniques, prompt engineering, few-shot learning, and evaluations, familiarity with large-scale model training and deployment, and strong programming skills in Python or similar languages would be advantageous.,
