Purpose

The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), Clean Air team is seeking a Research Intern to join its Clean Air team to expand its work in the area of air pollution and solid waste management in Amritsar. The chosen candidate will support the Clean Air team in carrying out quantitative and qualitative research, including a literature review, maintaining data repository, data analysis, and would support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for air quality. In addition to the specific duties outlined, the candidate must be flexible and adaptable to respond to unexpected events and developments as they arise.

Job duties and Accountabilities:

Research

  • To support research on solid waste management and textile waste management, including mapping the sector and assessing current practices and challenges.
  • To review literature and track national and global policy developments related to textile and solid waste management.
  • To provide assistance in compiling and analysing data through a primary survey.
  • To provide research content for the organisation's web pages, blogs, issue briefs, etc.
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of air quality and solid waste management in India and globally.

Programme assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for the wide dissemination of CEEW's work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes of the meeting.
  • Support senior team members for important meetings and sessions, prepare notes, and conduct follow-ups, as required.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in science, public policy, data science, urban planning, economics, resource management or any related field.

Work experience

  • 0-1 years experience in data science and policy research.
  • Desirable: Research experience in the domain of air quality and solid waste management.
  • Desirable: Experience in field research, for data collection/training of enumerators/sampling of households/pilot testing and monitoring activities.

Key Skills

  • Must be proficient in Hindi, English and Punjabi.
  • Must have strong communication skills for effective, efficient, and adaptive verbal and written communication, and active listening.
  • Must have strong research skills – the capability to carry out systematic literature review, and familiarity with research methods.
  • Experience working on data analysis tools like Excel, R, Python, and Power BI.
