Essential Duties and Responsibilities Experience working in large Azure environments, spanning multiple accounts/subscriptions, availability zones, and regions. Exposure to Azure IaaS & PaaS Services, experience in migration of workloads to cloud and understanding of Azure native services and disk pooling. Experience in managing SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014 ,2016 and 2019 as well as sun setting older databases/versions. Experience to configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication mirroring and log shipping issues, connectivity issues etc. Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using SQL Server monitoring utilities such as Spotlight (preferred), Redgate, IDERA or SolarWinds SentryOne. Ability to detect/ troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention. Good Experience in backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands. Experience with Always On design, Availability groups, replication, log shipping, mirroring and storage replication technologies Experience in indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching Knowledge of SQL Server tools (Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SAC, SSCM, PerfMon, DMVs, system procs) Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end. Experience with designing DR plans while satisfying SLA requirements and conducting Disaster recovery tests. Designing/Recommending database alerts for monitoring database availability and performance. Ability to work with internal and external auditors on PCI compliance audits. Ability to accurately monitor environments, resolve issues, and plan capacity improvements. Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes. Highly self-motivated and excellent time management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Hands-on experience with MS SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2019 required. Experience with Azure SQL in a multi-region configuration Expertise Microsoft SQL Server on VM, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL. Continually monitors creative product to ensure it conforms to the existing environments. Seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems and infrastructure. The primary focus will be on database performance tuning, automation, and expanding knowledge by cross-training on other database technologies, AI/ML engineering activities, and cloud migration work. Additionally, the candidate will address support gaps during our critical peak season timeframe and improve our overall DBA team skillsets within various technology stacks. This candidate has multiple years of database administration and/or development experience, is a self-starter, innovative, and proven to lead without direct authority. Primary Responsibilities Database Administration: Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances across on-premises and cloud environments (e.g., Azure SQL Database). Monitor database performance, tune queries, and optimize indexes for efficient operation. Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. Database Development: Design, develop, and optimize database schema, tables, views, stored procedures, and functions to support application requirements. Collaborate with application developers to integrate database functionality into applications and ensure seamless data access and manipulation. Cloud Integration and Migration: Utilize cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure) to deploy, manage, and optimize SQL Server databases in cloud environments. Facilitate data migration between on-premises and cloud databases, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity. Work extensively on the in-house Cloud Platform specific to United Health Group in migrating applications to cloud. Security and Compliance: Implement database security measures, including access control, encryption, and auditing, to protect sensitive data. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and organizational security policies. Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve database performance issues, optimize SQL queries, and fine-tune database configurations for improved efficiency and scalability. Automation and Scripting: Develop scripts and automation tools to streamline routine database administration tasks, deployments, and monitoring. Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development teams to understand application requirements, provide database expertise, and support application deployment and troubleshooting. Collaborate with system administrators and IT teams to ensure smooth integration of databases with infrastructure and network components. Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (2016, 2017, 2019). Experience with database performance tuning and optimization (PTO). Knowledge of SQL Server security best practices. Familiarity with backup and recovery strategies. Experience with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) options for SQL Server. Strong understanding of SQL and T-SQL scripting. Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., SQL Sentry, Redgate, SolarWinds). Knowledge of cloud-based databases, especially Azure SQL Database, is a plus.
