As a Lead at Syngene International Ltd. in Bangalore within the Translational Medicine - Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) department, you will provide strategic and technical leadership to build and manage a world-class bioinformatics team. Your key responsibility will involve working closely with key stakeholders across Translational Medicine teams to identify high-priority scientific questions and devise experiments and strategies to address them. Your role will include strategic and technical leadership of an innovative computational research organization, as well as line management of a team of 2+ PhD scientists. You will have the opportunity to work across multiple disease areas such as Immunology, Oncology, Hematology, and Neuroscience. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying and implementing state-of-the-art computational methods for data exploration, visualization, analysis, and integration of multi-omic, high-dimensional data. Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing and implementing computational pipelines to analyze Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data in collaboration with the BMS computational genomics team. Your role will also involve evaluating the performance of existing or new NGS assays, interpreting quality control data metrics, and collaborating with other teams to evaluate and apply cutting-edge methods for the analysis of multi-modal, high-dimensional -omics data. In addition to your technical skills, your role will require effective communication of computational research and findings to other scientists and clinicians across BMS Research sites. You will partner with key stakeholders to set and implement bioinformatics strategy, recruit and develop talent, and effectively balance team workload. To qualify for this position, you should hold a Ph.D. degree with 10-15 years of experience in relevant fields. Your technical skills should include hands-on experience with public domain datasets, fluency with cloud and Linux-based high-performance compute environments, and proficiency in statistical programming using tools like R or Python. Additionally, you should have a solid grounding in statistical theory, expertise in algorithmic implementation, and familiarity with contemporary bioinformatics tools and database structures. Your behavioral skills should encompass strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills. You should be capable of establishing strong working relationships across the organization and collaborating effectively to solve challenging problems at the intersection of modern statistics and medicine.
