Key Responsibilities Leadership & Project Ownership Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, providing guidance on design methodologies, standards, and best practices. Manage team performance, facilitate technical and soft skill development plans, and foster a collaborative, innovative culture. Own the complete mechanical design life cyclefrom concept, feasibility, prototyping, to production release. Prepare project schedules, track progress, and provide status updates to management. Foster innovation within the team by exploring new materials, manufacturing processes (CNC, additive manufacturing, injection molding), and costeffective solutions. Set strategic direction for mechanical design innovations and future capabilities to support evolving product and market needs. Ensure design data and intellectual property are protected in line with defense cybersecurity standards and company IP policies. Mechanical Design & Development Execute and review 3D mechanical designs using CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, NX) for weapon upgradation kits (buttstocks, pistol grips, rails, helmet mounts) and electro-optical assemblies. Design for manufacturability: injection molding (draft, wall thickness, undercuts, parting lines, ribs), machining, casting, and sheet metal parts. Conduct design analysis (thermal, stress, fit/form, IP, IK parameters) and perform FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus) as needed. Generate detailed design documentation: manufacturing drawings, exploded stack-ups, assembly guides, and BOMs. Manage suppliers and vendors for prototype development and component manufacturing. Troubleshoot and resolve design issues during development, testing, and production phases. GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) Apply and interpret GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5 or ISO standards) in all drawings to ensure functional fit, form, and interchangeability. Define and review critical dimensions, datum structures, and tolerances for manufacturability and inspection readiness. Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and support first-article inspections, CMM measurements, and PPAP reviews. Design Reviews & Compliance Conduct design reviews (DFMEA, PFMEA, DVP&R) and ensure robust design processes. Ensure all designs comply with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards (RoHS, REACH, MILSTD if applicable). Present concepts and finalized designs in internal and external stakeholder reviews. Lead mechanical aspects during field trials, gather user feedback, and iterate designs to improve ergonomics, durability, and mission-readiness. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support Coordinate with crossfunctional teams (Electrical, Electronics, Firmware, Manufacturing, QA) to ensure seamless product integration. Collaborate with Engineering & SCM teams for project execution, timelines, and material readiness. Coordinate with OEMs for technical documentation, compliance certificates, authorizations, and tender QRs. Support product demonstrations, exhibitions, and client interactions as required. Design Enhancement & Sustenance Modify and update existing product designs to meet evolving technical or client requirements. Perform root cause analysis on field/production issues and develop corrective test procedures. Optimize mechanical production techniques, incorporating DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly). Finalize and maintain mechanical BOMs, ensuring accurate SAP uploads and case tracking. Knowledge Building & Continuous Development Conduct technical studies on optical/mechanical systems, thermal imaging, night vision, and firmware integrations. Maintain an updated repository of datasheets, specs, presentations, case histories, and product brochures. Required Qualifications & Skills Bachelors or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 8–12 years of mechanical design experience in precision electro-optical or defense-grade systems, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role. Proven ability to lead mechanical projects and drive cross-functional deliverables. Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, NX) and surfacing techniques (boundary surface, loft, fill, etc.). Expertise in applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5 or ISO standards) for production drawings, inspection plans, and tolerance stack-up. Proficiency in FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus) and thermal/structural analysis. Knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, casting, sheet metal, plastic molding. Strong understanding of product life cycle management (PLM) systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience in design for manufacturability, supplier development, and rapid prototyping. Working knowledge of SAP, ERP systems, and documentation protocols. Desirable Skills Exposure to ISO standards & military standards (MIL-STD-810/883, JS 55555) or ruggedization. Knowledge of weapons, thermal cameras, and night vision sensor devices. Experience working with Govt Labs, OEMs, Defense Integrators, and product certification authorities. For more details, please contact: Ranjana Malhotra 9555451414
