Job Description

Key Responsibilities

A Project Engineer at PECPL will be responsible for the endtoend technical execution of assigned equipment / process equipment fabrication projects. Major duties include:

  • Project Planning & Coordination

    • Review customer specifications, purchase orders, technical documents, and ensure all requirements are understood.

    • Create project schedules and milestones (design, procurement, fabrication, testing, delivery) and ensure projects stay on track.

    • Coordinate interdepartmentally (Design, Process/Thermal, Fabrication / Shop Floor, Quality, Procurement, Logistics) to align deliverables and resolve technical issues.

  • Design Support & Review

    • Liaise with thermal / mechanical design teams to validate design deliverables (thermal sizing, mechanical drawings, material selection) for manufacturability.

    • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (ASME, EN, TEMA, etc.) and internal QA/QC requirements.

    • Manage change requests, engineering revisions, ensuring traceability of changes and communication to affected departments.

  • Procurement & Material FollowUp

    • Work with procurement to define specifications for materials, components, weld consumables etc., ensure lead times are accounted for.

    • Monitor supplier deliverables, ensure quality and delivery schedule adherence.

  • Fabrication / Manufacturing Execution

    • Oversee fabrication activities in shop: monitor progress, resolve technical & production bottlenecks, ensure adherence to fabrication drawings and quality standards.

    • Liaise with welding / inspection / NDT teams to ensure processes are being followed correctly.

    • Ensure tests, pressure / leak tests, dimensional verifications are done as required.

  • Quality, Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure project execution adheres to safety norms, shop floor safety, environmental regulations, handling of heavy loads and lifting, handling hazardous materials etc.

    • Coordinate with quality team for inspections, nonconformances, and ensure corrective actions are executed.

    • Ensure documentation (QA / QC records, test certificates, material certificates, inspection reports) is maintained and submitted as per customer / regulatory requirements.

  • Logistics, Testing, and Delivery

    • Plan for the testing, packaging, documentation, and shipping of completed equipment. Oversee ODC / oversize handling & logistics coordination.

    • Ensure timely dispatch, coordinate with logistics / transport teams, prepare necessary packing / lashing / route surveys where needed.

  • Cost & Budget Control

    • Track project costs (material, labour, overheads), evaluate variances, and propose corrective actions.

    • Support estimation / quotation review for new projects in terms of feasibility, cost, schedule.


Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Process / Chemical / Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

  • -7 years

  • Experience working with design teams, fabrication shops, inspection / testing, and with standards & codes used in pressure equipment / heat exchangers (e.g. ASME, TEMA etc.). 

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in reading & interpreting mechanical / fabrication drawings, welding symbols, piping layouts, pressure calculations, thermal design basics.

  • Good grasp of project management tools & techniques: scheduling (Gantt / MS Project etc.), resource planning, risk management.

  • Understanding of materials & metallurgy relevant for pressure / heat exchange / high temperature work.

  • Familiarity with QA / QC / NDT / pressure testing.

  • Skills in communication & documentation: clear technical reports, follow up, clarity.

Soft Skills

  • Strong coordination and communication skills; ability to align teams across functions.

  • Problem solving mindset; ability to anticipate issues & mitigate.

  • Attention to detail, proactive, ability to manage multiple tasks / projects in parallel.

  • Time management: ability to deliver on schedule.

  • Leadership potential: able to lead small teams / contractors or vendors.


Reporting & Work Conditions

  • Project Manager / Engineering Manager / Plant Head

  • Works closely with: Thermal & Mechanical Design, Fabrication Shop, Procurement, Quality, Logistics.

  • Onsite presence: shopfloor / fabrication area; periodic visits to supplier / workshop / customer sites may be needed.

  • Work may involve heavy lifting, exposure to welding / fabrication processes, noise, overhead cranes etc.

  • May require travel especially for site inspections, vendor followups, or logistics planning.
