Role Overview We are looking for a Category Manager – Fresh Produce to lead sourcing, sales, and category development for a diverse portfolio including Onions, Garlic, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Apples, and Oranges . The role requires strong knowledge of both vegetable staples and fruit categories , with responsibility for driving sales, profitability, and expansion . The Category Manager will work closely with senior management to build the category, grow market share, and scale volumes sustainably. Key Responsibilities 1. Category Strategy & Planning Develop and execute growth plans across vegetables (onion, garlic, potato, tomato) and fruits (apple, orange). Track mandi price trends, international trade flows, and customer demand patterns. Define assortment strategy (varieties, pack sizes, sourcing regions) for each category. 2. Sales & Business Development Directly drive sales of assigned categories across ecommerce, quick commerce, modern retail, and institutional buyers. Build strong customer relationships and close deals to achieve revenue and margin targets. Over time, recruit, train, and manage a sales team to scale with category volumes. 3. Sourcing & Supplier Development Build strong supplier networks across regions: Vegetables : Nasik, Karnataka, MP, AP, UP for onion/potato/tomato/garlic. Fruits : Himachal, Kashmir, imported apples; Nagpur/Maharashtra oranges. Negotiate procurement contracts ensuring price competitiveness, consistent quality, and supply reliability. Explore import/export opportunities for off-season coverage (e.g., imported apples, citrus). 4. Operations & Supply Chain Align with procurement and operations for efficient sourcing, grading, packaging, and logistics. Optimize farm-to-customer movement, minimizing wastage and cost. Ensure freshness and availability across the portfolio. 5. Financial & Performance Management Own the financial performance of the assigned categories—managing revenues, margins, and working capital. Monitor SKU profitability, wastage levels, and demand-supply alignment. Generate regular performance dashboards highlighting risks and opportunities. Key Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of fresh produce value chains—farm production, seasonality, mandi dynamics, imports/exports. Hands-on sales experience with ability to close deals and grow revenues. Negotiation and vendor management expertise. Analytical skills to track price trends, demand forecasts, and category economics. Ability to work cross-functionally with supply chain, operations, sales, and finance. Entrepreneurial and execution-focused mindset. Qualifications Graduate/Postgraduate in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Supply Chain, or MBA (preferred). 6–10 years of experience in F&V category management, commodity sourcing, or modern trade supply chains. Prior exposure to staples (onion, potato, garlic) and fruits (apple, citrus) will be a strong advantage.
