Production Manager - Paint Shop

Role & responsibilities

Paint Shop Operations Management

• Manage day-to-day operations of the paint shop (pre-treatment, primer, base coat, clear coat, baking, polishing).
  
• Ensure production targets are met in terms of volume, quality, and time.
  
• Monitor and optimize paint usage, process parameters, and cycle times.
  

2. Team Leadership & Workforce Management

• Lead a team of engineers, supervisors, technicians, and operators across all shifts.
  
• Ensure skill development, training, and performance monitoring of team members.
  
• Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  

3. Quality & Process Control

• Ensure first-time-right (FTR) quality in painting operations and surface finish.
  
• Work with the Quality Assurance team to address paint defects such as orange peel, runs, dust, or color mismatch.
  
• Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  

4. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination

• Ensure all painting robots, booths, conveyors, ovens, and other equipment are functioning efficiently.
  
• Coordinate with maintenance and engineering teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance.
  

5. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and company safety policies.
  
• Maintain proper handling, storage, and disposal of paints, thinners, and solvents.
  
• Conduct safety audits and promote workplace hygiene.
  

6. Process & Continuous Improvement

• Drive process improvements using lean tools like Kaizen, 5S, TPM, and Six Sigma.
  
• Reduce rework, cycle time, and material wastage.
  
• Implement automation and digitization initiatives to enhance productivity.
  

7. Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain production reports, downtime analysis, paint consumption logs, and quality dashboards.
  
• Present MIS and KPIs to senior management regularly.
