Role & responsibilities DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform designs and mechanical analyses through more detailed calculations (hand, spreadsheet or approved software) specific to Mechanical Engineering with direction and guidance from Chief or Senior Mechanical Engineer. Develop capacity to sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings. Write Specifications for mechanical equipment design, fabrication, procurement, etc. and prepare Requisitions for RFQ and Procurement Provide technical support for the Proposals, Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment. Provide direction and technical support for designers. Analyze designed and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes & standards, and project requirements. Under Lead Engineer supervision, check drawings and drafting for adherence to designs & applicable standards. Contribute to new technology designs for incorporation in larger systems, Propose and design equipment design improvements. Develop broad knowledge in mechanical subject matters, with advancement of knowledge in one or more subject matters. Review designs and assist Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function. Travel to fabrication workshops and job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant & fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.). Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions. Coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and Clients. Preferred candidate profile The following characteristics and experience will be more suitable: 6-10 years experience, preferably with a mix of industrial exposure Prefer plant design engineering experience with the following kinds of equipment: Rotating fans, blowers, compressors, pumps, chillers/dryers Gas conditioning - heat exchangers, flue gas heat recovery, dryers, coolers, cooling towers, natural gas treatment Dust collection cyclones, wet scrubbers, ESP’s, extraction duct sizing, pressure drop and flow analysis Bulk Material handling – some exposure preferred, not predominant; a big plus for specialized focus in high angle conveying, bins and weigh feeders, gravimetric feeders, coating systems Water treatment systems – thickeners/clarifiers, solids separation, chemical dosing, sumps, pumps and piping calculations Combustion systems – exposure to burner systems, oxyfuel systems Hydraulics & Lubrication – automated hydraulics systems, automated grease and oil lubrication systems, experience with actuators and positioning Thermal process equipment – any exposure is helpful (metallurgical, power gen, O&G, Petrochem, etc.) Of the above list, a positive candidate would have exposure in 4 or more areas.
