The NDT Engineer specializing in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) for robotic integration plays a crucial role in collaborating with software and control system teams to incorporate UT & PAUT into robotic NDT systems, ensuring optimal inspection performance. The ideal candidate for this position will possess extensive experience in NDT automation, probe and frequency selection, phased array data acquisition, and defect characterization. Key Responsibilities: 1. NDT Inspection & Signal Optimization - Optimize probe selection, wedge design, and beam focusing for high-resolution imaging. - Define scanning techniques to detect various defect types. - Analyze UT & PAUT signals for accurate defect detection, sizing, and characterization. - Implement advanced techniques like Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) and Full Matrix Capture (FMC) for enhanced detection capabilities. - Develop procedures for coupling enhancement and evaluate attenuation, beam divergence, and wave mode conversion. - Work with AI-based defect recognition systems for automated data processing. - Test different scanning configurations for challenging surfaces and weld seams. - Optimize gain, PRF, and filtering settings for signal clarity. - Implement phased array data interpretation techniques. - Develop automated thickness gauging algorithms. - Ensure compatibility of PAUT imaging with robotic motion constraints. 2. NDT-Integration for Robotics (UT & PAUT) - Select, integrate, and optimize ultrasonic transducers and phased array probes. - Define NDT scanning parameters for robotic applications. - Coordinate with control system and software teams for planning and automation. - Mount, position, and align UT/PAUT probes. - Conduct system calibration and validation on robotic platforms. 3. Data Analysis & Reporting - Interpret PAUT sectorial scans, FMC, and TFM data. - Assist in processing PAUT data for defect characterization. - Generate detailed technical reports. - Ensure compliance with NDT standards. 4. Coordination with Software & Control System Teams - Define scan path strategies and automation logic. - Collaborate for precise probe movement and stability. - Assist in integrating AI-driven defect recognition. 5. Field Deployment & Validation - Supervise system trials in real-world inspection environments. - Ensure compliance with safety regulations. - Support troubleshooting and optimization. - Train operators on robotic ultrasonic testing procedures. Required Qualifications & Skills: - Masters Degree in Metallurgy/NDT/Mechanical. - ASNT-Level II/III, ISO 9712, PCN, AWS CWI, or API 510/570 certifications. - 3-10 years of experience in UT and PAUT. - Strong technical and analytical skills. - Excellent communication and coordination abilities. You will also interpret PAUT data, assist in processing data for defect characterization, validate inspection results, and generate technical reports in compliance with NDT standards. Your role will involve close collaboration with software and control system teams to define scan path strategies, ensure precise probe movement, and integrate AI-driven defect recognition for automated data interpretation. You will supervise robotic UT/PAUT system trials in real-world inspection environments, support on-site troubleshooting, and train operators on robot-assisted ultrasonic testing procedures. To qualify for this position, you should have a Master's Degree in Metallurgy/NDT/Mechanical, ASNT-Level II/III or equivalent certifications in UT & PAUT, and 3-10 years of experience in Ultrasonic Testing. Strong technical skills in probe selection, frequency tuning, phased array beamforming, NDT software, and collaboration with software and control teams are essential. You should possess strong problem-solving abilities, excellent technical communication skills, and the willingness to travel for on-site deployments.
