Preschool Substitute Aide

As a Preschool Substitute Aide at Kamehameha Schools, you will have the opportunity to support the North Hawai'i Island Preschool Region encompassing locations in Waimea, Hamakua, and Kohala. This Temporary, On-Call position offers entry-level responsibilities with flexible schedules that may include up to 40 hours per week based on operational requirements. Your role involves assisting in creating a developmentally appropriate learning environment for a class of around 20 children, working alongside the Teacher for the Extended Day or Regular Day Preschool Programs. You will help in planning and implementing a language-based curriculum that promotes Protestant religion and Hawaiian culture for preschool-age children. It is essential to maintain the required certifications and actively participate in curriculum development. Your responsibilities will include assisting in daily classroom lessons, engaging in appropriate interactions with students, conducting small group instruction, observations, and assessments. You will also be responsible for supervising student behavior following early childhood health and safety guidelines, providing program and clerical support, preparing classroom materials, and participating in staff development workshops and in-services. The ideal candidate should possess a High School Diploma or GED, good interpersonal skills, organizational abilities to manage varied work activities, and effective written and oral communication skills. Preferred qualifications include a CDA or AA in Early Childhood Education, familiarity with Hawaiian culture and age-appropriate Protestant religion curriculum, and experience working with at-risk children and families. This position may involve occasional travel to different locations, including neighbor islands, for business purposes. While the typical work schedule is Monday to Friday during regular business hours, evening and weekend hours may be required to achieve objectives. Physical requirements include sitting, computer tasks, grasping, standing, walking, lifting objects up to 30 pounds, and occasional bending, stooping, or climbing.
