The Role In this role, the Senior Power Systems Engineer will work closely with customers to design, configure and implement advanced applications using AspenTech’s Digital Grid Management monarch platform across power grids to deliver the advanced transmission, generation and distribution management functions of control systems and provide ongoing customer support to ensure reliable performance and world-class customer satisfaction. Working from company and customer sites as required, the successful applicant will contribute to project delivery excellence in support of utility customers in the energy generation transmission and distribution industries. Your Impact Design, plan, integrate, test and commission hardware and software requirements on customer systems. Design, integrate, test, and commission advanced control systems for electric utilities. Evaluate contract specifications and define project requirements. Communicate detailed requirements to internal departments as needed. Work directly with customers and remote engineering team members to understand requirements and communicate project plans. Perform customer training and consult on power system modelling to ensure the effective use and maintenance of a customer’s power system applications. Assist in creating project and product documentation as needed. Perform unit testing and tuning to ensure power system applications will meet customer and industry requirements. Support live customer systems using knowledge of power systems and application functionality with clear, logical thought processes. Assist in creating training materials and project documentation as needed. Stay up to date with the latest industry standards and trends. What You'll Need Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics engineering / Post-graduate in Power Systems or related discipline is desirable. 5 to 8 years work experience in Power System Analysis and Energy Management Systems. Experienced project implementation or operational experience, preferably in the utility industry. Experience with electrical utility control systems (SCADA, EMS, GMS, DMS, OMS, DERMS) or experience working in utility operations or engineering support. Ensure findings are clearly communicated and meet the relevant standards and client expectations. Conduct complex assessments and provide specialist solutions on power system issues. This may include performing generator or converter model validations, stability improvement strategies, and proposing mitigation measures for network constraints. You will also deliver technical presentations and training to internal teams and external clients, sharing knowledge on topics such as HVDC integration, grid stability, and emerging technologies (e.g. HVDC links, STATCOMs, and grid-forming inverter technologies). Contribute to project execution by leading or coordinating complex study tasks, especially those involving converter-based resources. Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed formats and timelines. As a senior engineer, review and validate the work of junior engineers when necessary, providing mentorship and technical guidance to uphold quality and accuracy. Engage in continuous professional development and industry activities. This includes attending or presenting at conferences, participating in industry forums, and staying up to date with the latest developments in power system simulation tools and grid integration technologies to continually enhance our service offerings. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related field). At least 8 years of relevant experience in power system modeling and analysis for grid connections and transmission projects. This should include hands-on experience with generation interconnection feasibility studies, transmission planning, and network stability assessments, ideally in a utility/TSO or power engineering consultancy environment. Proven knowledge and experience on performing complex transmission power system studies such as: steady state analysis, short circuit analysis, transient stability analysis, generator model validation. Any additional experience on the following fields is beneficial: electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations, cable design, protection coordination and relay settings studies, harmonic analysis, small signal stability, adequacy studies and probabilistic approaches. Proven experience in modeling and integrating HVDC systems and inverter-based resources into transmission networks, with a focus on assessing their feasibility and impact on grid stability. Familiarity with emerging grid-forming converter technologies and their application in renewable energy integration is beneficial. Experience working closely with or within transmission utilities/TSOs on interconnection projects or advanced grid studies (e.g. cross-border interconnectors, renewable energy integration, large-scale battery storage projects). Familiar with international grid codes and standards (e.g. IEC, IEEE) relevant to transmission planning and grid connection requirements. Strong proficiency in power system simulation software Siemens PSS®E is essential. Experience with additional power system analysis tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory and/or PSCAD (in particular for electromagnetic transient studies or detailed converter modeling). Ability to automate studies using Python scripting is beneficial. Ability to manage tasks effectively under time and resource constraints, delivering results with good quality even under pressure. Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken), as this role involves liaising with international teams and clients. Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent credentials in any of the abovementioned countries is an advantage (but not required). Qualifications & Experience At least 5 years’ experience in power system study projects, preferably in a consulting environment.Significant experience in EMT studies - insulation coordination, transient recovery voltage, and related Transient studies.Experience with PSCAD, EMTP-RV, PSSE, DigSilent PowerFactory, ETAP, or similar.Desirable to have skills in RMS dynamic stability studies, particularly grid connection studies for renewables.Ability to conduct and review the following studies independently - power flow, short circuit, harmonics, protection coordination, unit protection, arc flash.Consulting experience in power projects in Australia and UK is desirable.Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations.Organizational skills and proactive approach in project management.Ability to lead, and provide technical solutions to problems with good influencing, motivating and delegating skills. Highly Regarded Skills Desirable to have understanding of Australian electricity market, electricity generation, transmission and distribution practices and related topics.Experience in renewables such as solar and wind power generation plants.Computational design, design algorithms and automation of data manipulation.Using python scripting for automating studies on power system study software. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.10 – 15 years of experience in electrical plant design, power distribution, and high-voltage systems, preferably in semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing facilities.Proven experience in setting up and managing 220KV, 66KV, and 33KV substations and transformers for large industrial projects.Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership abilities.
