Job Summary:A Purchase Engineer is responsible for procuring goods, materials, and services required for manufacturing or operations while ensuring the quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of the items. They play a crucial role in managing supplier relationships, analyzing market trends, and streamlining the purchasing process. Key Responsibilities:Supplier Management: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers. Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers. Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable and cost-effective procurement. Procurement Planning: Analyze the requirements from various departments to determine the material needs. Maintain an inventory system to ensure stock levels are optimal, avoiding both overstocking and stockouts. Purchase Order Management: Prepare and process purchase orders based on department requirements. Ensure that all procurement orders are accurate and comply with specifications. Track purchase orders and deliveries to ensure timely receipt of materials. Cost Control: Analyze market trends and assess the cost-effectiveness of different suppliers. Aim to reduce procurement costs while maintaining quality. Review and approve the bills/invoices from suppliers and cross-check with purchase orders. Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of purchased materials aligns with company standards. Coordinate with the quality assurance team to inspect goods upon receipt. Address any defects or discrepancies with suppliers. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all purchases, including invoices, quotations, and delivery schedules. Prepare regular procurement reports for management review. Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and statutory regulations. Vendor Development & Evaluation: Continuously assess supplier performance based on quality, cost, and timely delivery. Negotiate long-term contracts with vendors to secure favorable terms and conditions. Conduct periodic vendor audits and assessments. Logistics Coordination: Work closely with the logistics team to ensure that goods are delivered on time and meet quality standards. Address any delays or transportation issues with suppliers. Inventory Management: Collaborate with inventory management teams to track and replenish stock levels. Assist in the management of the store's inventory to ensure materials are available when needed for production or operations. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure the timely availability of raw materials and components. Provide technical advice to the team on procurement-related matters. Qualifications:Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred). A Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with additional procurement certification (e.g., Diploma in Material Management) is also acceptable. Knowledge of supply chain management, vendor relations, and logistics is a plus. Skills & Competencies: Strong negotiation and communication skills. Good understanding of procurement and inventory management software. Familiarity with market trends and sourcing practices in India. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of supply chain and logistics processes. Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
