The Genetics & Biochemistry department at Clemson University is seeking a highly motivated individual to join The Lewis Lab. The lab focuses on utilizing population and functional genomics to investigate the molecular mechanisms and evolutionary processes underlying adaptive evolution. Located in picturesque Clemson, SC, our R1 institution offers a stimulating academic environment in close proximity to the natural beauty of Lake Hartwell and the Blue Ridge mountains. Greenville, SC is just 40 minutes away, and there are 5 national forests within a 2-hour drive, providing ample outdoor recreational opportunities. The ideal candidate for this position will hold a PhD in biology, evolutionary biology, genetics, genomics, or a related field. Proficiency in Spanish and experience in sample collection in Central and/or South America are required. While experience with large genomic datasets is preferred, it is not mandatory. You will be responsible for analyzing genetics, epigenetics, metagenomics, and metabolomics data obtained from high-throughput multiplex assays using advanced computational techniques. Your role will involve integrating various datasets to address specific biological questions and designing pipelines for statistical genetics programs for both basic and translational research purposes. Additionally, you will be expected to write manuscripts and contribute to various research studies while managing project deliveries, responding to customer queries, and addressing custom requirements from clients. As a Senior Bioinformatician, you must possess a basic understanding of molecular biology and genomics. Hands-on experience in NGS data analysis, including RNA-seq, Exome-seq, ChIP-seq, and downstream analysis, is essential. Proficiency in programming using Perl or Python, as well as experience in designing and developing bioinformatics pipelines, is required. Preferably, you should also have experience in statistical programming using R, Bioconductor, or Matlab. Knowledge in WGS, GWAS, and population genomics is advantageous. You should be adept at handling big data and capable of guiding team members across multiple projects simultaneously. Collaboration with different groups of clinical research scientists for various project requirements is expected. The ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with minimal support is essential for success in this role.,
