About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 09 Title: Power market analyst (South Asia) The Team: The South Asia gas/power research team operates within the S&P Global Commodity Insights Research & Analytics Solutions group. The team is dedicated to providing forward-looking market analysis and delivering impactful insights to clients through comprehensive written reports, advanced analytics and direct client engagement. South Asia power and gas practice investigates the strategic issues facing the regions energy market development and helps clients navigate an exciting yet highly uncertain market landscape via both retainer research and bespoke consulting. The Power and gas team based out of Gurgaon office, and primary focus on the key energy markets in the sub-region - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The team is comprised of well qualified and experienced professionals from the industry carrying out fundamental analysis of the energy sector and supporting clients with market insights & strategic analysis. Role - The Analyst will work on various tasks involving preparation of the power and gas database, market modelling activities, prepare short-term forecasts, prepare short insights. He/she will be responsible to produce accurate, timely and analytical deliverables. The Analyst will also support S&P Global research events, sales activities and will interact with clients by phone and through in-person meetings. Responsibilities: Support power market modeling activities in South Asia region using sophisticated power sector models (like PLEXOS, GAMS, PROMOD, PyPSA etc.) Structure model scenarios and sensitivity cases in collaboration with different teams Be single point of contact for all power and renewable coverage on assigned South Asian country Prepare insights and market reports covering Short-term market analysis Daily/ monthly tracking of government websites (covering electricity market value chain) to configure and maintain database Work with research team to support on database consolidation and data verification required for research/consulting deliverables Work with subject matter experts to develop research products, as and when asked for What Were Looking For: Education and competencies: Graduate/ Post-graduate (Oil and Gas, Power, Mathematics, Statistics and Operational research) with less than 3 years of experience Experience in data analytics, databases, data transformation, information sciences, statistical analysis or similar. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Must have: Basic to medium Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel; Working knowledge of Power BI Desirable: Knowledge of Tableau, VBA, Access, SQL, Python, R or similar. Familiarity with complex energy modeling tools like PLEXOS, PROMOD, IPM, MARKAL/TIMES, LEAP (the Low Emissions Analysis Platform), Aurora tools etc. General understanding and interest in energy markets; Highly focused on project delivery; Able to work independently with minimal supervision; Good communication skills: both verbal and written.

A firm understanding of energy economics for power market fundamentals and economic concepts of power markets (and ability to explain these): Reserve Margins, Implied Market Heat Rate, Spark/Dark Spread, etc Knowledge of production cost modelling software’s like PLEXOS (preferred), Aurora or Promod, or similar are required Good Knowledge of Power Plant/Natural Gas Economics, Power Systems, Gas supply chain, Operation research/Optimization techniques, statistics, and Energy (Power &/ Gas) Markets/Industry is required Extensive knowledge and experience with transmission planning and nodal market modeling including generator mapping, assessing N-x contingencies, understanding and troubleshooting nodal model infeasibilities and other planning related power flow analysis Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and see projects/assignments through from start to finish.
