Description
As a Plastic Tooling Engineer at Apple, you will be a key interface among the Worldwide Operations Team, responsible for plastic tool development. Your role will involve supporting part design, tool concept and process review, defining DFM, and managing tool T0-Tf for a specific commodity critical to the overall success of Apple Operations. Your responsibilities will include: - Collaborating in a team environment to create, evaluate, and implement manufacturing solutions for Apple's Acoustic & ICD modules - Working closely with stakeholders in Quality Engineering, Global Supply Management, Product Design, and Industrial Design to ensure manufacturing solutions meet quality, cost, yield, capacity, schedule, and environmental goals - Leading development in areas such as CAD/CAM software proficiency, injection molding processes, tool design principles, tooling manufacturing machines, plastic tooling design, tooling issue resolution, tooling trials, plastic material knowledge, and injection molding process basics - Analyzing SPC data, identifying automation opportunities, and justifying automation projects based on efficiency metrics Your role will involve: - Evaluating product and industrial design goals to understand priorities for the product - Collaborating with Global Supply Managers and manufacturing suppliers to align on a development strategy - Identifying suitable fabrication equipment and processes to meet Apple's design and operational requirements - Developing and documenting processes to meet defined specifications - Conducting process optimization DOEs and communicating ongoing process development status to cross-functional teams - Traveling internationally to support manufacturing partner sites and collaborating with in-region team members Preferred Qualifications: - Excellent knowledge of plastic materials and design for manufacturing - Experience debugging complex tools and processes, processing various materials, and managing tool development programs - Mold Flow analysis capabilities - Ability to work independently or within a team, host meetings, do presentations, and communicate technical information effectively - Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time - Experience in data analysis, coding, and machine learning is a plus Minimum Qualifications: - Minimum 10 years of plastic tooling (injection molding preferred) experience in the molding and/or plastic materials industry - Experience in high gloss cosmetic part tooling engineering - Ability to communicate technical information in English, fluency in Mandarin is a plus - Bachelors/Masters in Engineering, preferably in Plastics Engineering or Chemical Engineering Join Apple and be part of a diverse team that inspires innovation and strives to leave the world better than we found it.,
