Job Description

The role of a Plastic Tooling Engineer at Apple is pivotal in the development of plastic tools for support part design, tool concept, process review, and definition, as well as DFM review and tool T0-Tf. This position, which acts as a key interface within the Worldwide Operations Team, focuses on a specific commodity and greatly impacts the overall success of Apple's operations. As a Plastic Tooling Engineer at Apple, you will be part of a collaborative environment dedicated to creating, evaluating, and implementing end-to-end manufacturing solutions for Acoustic & ICD modules. Collaboration with various stakeholders such as Quality Engineering, Global Supply Management, Product Design, and Industrial Design is vital to ensure that manufacturing solutions align with product quality, cost, yield, capacity, schedule, and environmental objectives. Your responsibilities will include evaluating product and industrial design goals, collaborating with global supply managers and manufacturing suppliers, identifying suitable fabrication equipment and processes, developing and documenting processes, conducting process optimization DOEs, and communicating process development status to cross-functional teams. Additionally, you will be required to travel internationally, have familiarity with a phase gate product development approach, and lead development in various areas related to tooling manufacturing, plastic materials, injection molding processes, plastic tooling design, control data analysis, and tooling issue FACA experience. To qualify for this role, you should have a minimum of 10 years of plastic tooling experience (injection molding preferred) in the molding and/or plastic materials industry, with high gloss cosmetic part tooling engineer experiences considered a plus. Strong communication skills in English are essential, and fluency in Mandarin is advantageous. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, preferably in Plastics Engineering or Chemical Engineering, is required. Preferred qualifications for the Plastic Tooling Engineer position at Apple include excellent knowledge of plastic materials and design for manufacturing, experience in debugging complex tools and processes, handling a variety of materials, managing multiple tool development programs with vendors, mold flow analysis capabilities, the ability to work independently or within a team, willingness to travel, and skills in data analysis, coding, and machine learning.
