Description
Role & responsibilities Reports to the Manager of Mechanical Design. Conduct pipe flexibility analysis, code calculations, support analysis, and review CAD drawings of design items, parts, and components of complex equipment, assemblies, steel frames, connections, piping, and pressure parts using knowledge of basic engineering principles, and current manufacturing or fabrication methods and procedures. Coordinate work to interface with other departments within the company and outside vendors. Perform general administrative duties to maintain an efficient working group. Constantly review drawings in process, checking for integrity of design, conformity with engineering analysis. and cost effectiveness, considering fabrication and construction requirements. Communicate with fabricators, vendors, construction personnel and other internal or external groups as required. This includes providing specific equipment design and subsequent coordination from the initial proposal stage through installation and startup. Utilize established standards and company guidelines to satisfy project requirements. Preferred candidate profile Conduct code calculations in accordance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 Conduct flexibility analysis and code calculations in accordance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 Conduct stress analysis design and selection for pipe supports (both pre-engineered and engineered) Responsible for the drawing preparation, accurate and cost-effective designs, producing arrangements, layouts, isometrics, and studies adhering to company/industry standards and practices supportive of the company's proposal and contract effort. Prepare equipment technical specifications for purchase of equipment. Technical specification include mechanical, NDE, paint, customer, and code requirements that must be adhered to by the fabricator. Review prepared drawings, bill of materials, and designs, which meet applicable codes, standards, ISO instructions, and Customer's specifications for a specific project. Coordinate activities for drafting personnel (and sub-let design services) assigned to project. Ensure project adherence to the schedule. Review and critically analyze customer specifications and documents to ensure design compliance highlighting areas in need of exception, clarification, or noting deviations for universal acceptance. Through constant communications with other department personnel and disciplines, provide continuing standards and department guideline updates to reflect advanced and state of the art design concepts. Participate in meetings with customers engineering consultants or other company affiliated units when meetings are held on issues that require direct involvement. Travel, as required, for participation in these meetings or for resolution of field-encountered issues. Ensure project work conforms to ISO/Quality requirements Maintain complete files on all active contracts, proposals, and history files supportive of previous efforts. Prepare stress analysis plan to execute design development on assigned. projects Meet periodically with the functional manager and other PDL's to discuss team successes and failures, new design concepts, productivity enhancements, need for additional tools, etc. to provide uniformity between teams and allow growth from the experiences of other teams Provide design interface with other team members, i.e., construction, shop, fabrication, purchasing, vendors, etc. Provide leadership and accountability, design assistance in meetings with customers (as requested by the PE), as well as internal design freeze, first of a kind, potential probably analysis, and lessons learned meetings
