Job Description

Job Specification: Pharmacist

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm)

    Mandatory

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) or Masters in Pharmacy (M.Pharm)

    Preferred

  • Must be a

    registered pharmacist

    with a valid license from the national regulatory authority

Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience for junior positions;
  • Experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting preferred

Key Responsibilities

Dispensing & Medication Management

  • Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Prepare, label, and dispense medications in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Ensure safe storage and handling of pharmaceuticals.

Clinical Support

  • Advise medical and nursing staff on drug selection, dosage, and interactions.
  • Participate in ward rounds and provide clinical input on medication therapy.
  • Monitor patient responses and report adverse drug reactions.

Inventory & Supply Chain

  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or excess stock.
  • Check for expired medications and manage returns or disposal.
  • Assist in stock ordering and replenishment processes.

Patient Counseling

  • Provide patients with instructions on medication use, dosage, and potential side effects.
  • Educate patients on adherence, storage, and lifestyle modifications where applicable.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records as per hospital and legal requirements.
  • Comply with national drug laws, licensing regulations, and hospital policies.
  • Participate in audits and inspections.

Quality Assurance

  • Participate in medication safety initiatives and drug utilization reviews.
  • Contribute to the implementation of infection control and quality improvement protocols.
  • Report medication errors or near misses as part of continuous improvement.

Use of Technology

  • Operate pharmacy and hospital information systems (e.g., HIS, EMR).
  • Use drug databases and interaction tools for clinical decision-making.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and dosage calculations
  • Familiarity with hospital formulary and clinical protocols
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy information systems and electronic health records
  • Understanding of controlled drug management and sterile compounding (if applicable)

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a team-oriented environment
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
