Additionally, the engineer should participate in driving the technical vision for projects, translating business needs into actionable solutions, and overseeing the development, deployment and resource optimization processes. Responsibilities Work closely with Pappaya Cloud Tech team and leadership to define the technical direction for projects, including architecture, design, and technology stack selection w.r.t servers, storage and other hardware components. Hardware installation and configuration: o Installing new server hardware, configuring RAID arrays, setting up network interfaces, and managing physical connections. Performance monitoring and troubleshooting: o Identifying and resolving hardware-related issues like CPU bottlenecks, memory leaks, disk failures, overheating, and power supply problems through diagnostics and performance monitoring tools. o Hardware upgrades and maintenance: o Planning and executing hardware upgrades, including CPU, memory, storage expansions, and firmware updates to maintain optimal performance. o Review racking and stacking, cabling, and power budgets per rack. Vendor management: o Liaising with hardware vendors for procurement, warranty support, technical assistance, and repairs. Capacity planning: o Assessing future server needs, forecasting hardware requirements, and planning for capacity expansion o Develop analytical methods to drive operational efficiency with the organization. Security measures: o Implementing security protocols related to physical server access, data encryption, and hardware-based security features Documentation and reporting: o Maintaining detailed documentation of server hardware configurations, maintenance records, and incident reports o Clearly communicate technical concepts to nontechnical audiences. o Document technical decisions and processes. Operational Efficiency: o Participate in developing and automating infrastructure deployments and configurations. o Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions o Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating for continual improvement. o Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large-scale distributed software applications. o Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts. o Gather and analyze metrics from operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding. o Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service-level objectives. o Proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. o Delegate tasks effectively and provide constructive feedback. o Collaborate with engineers to solve complex problems. o Work closely with stakeholders, including product managers, business analysts, and clients, to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions. Understanding of different storage technologies and how to integrate them with KVM. Experience with scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate tasks, is an added advantage Proficiency in system administration tasks like BIOS configuration, RAID management, and hardware diagnostics. Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve hardwarerelated issues Understanding of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model and renowned ports and services can be an added advantage.
