Oracle DBA

Key Activities:

Solution Design & Planning

Participate in project scoping and planning to define database architecture (cloud/on-prem/hybrid).

Recommend appropriate Oracle solutions (e.g., Oracle DBaaS, Exadata, RAC, Data Guard, Autonomous DB) based on performance, cost, and resilience needs.

Estimate database sizing, licensing, and infrastructure requirements.

Database Build & Configuration

Build Oracle databases across environments (on-prem servers, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS RDS, Azure).

Set up high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) configurations (e.g., RAC, Data Guard).

Implement multi-environment configurations (DEV, UAT, PROD) aligned with project timelines.

Cloud-Specific Delivery

Provision and configure Oracle databases using OCI, AWS RDS for Oracle, or Azure Database services.

Migrate workloads from on-prem to cloud using tools like Data Pump, RMAN, or Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM).

Apply cloud-native practices: automation (Terraform, Ansible), tagging, IAM, and resource monitoring.

Data Migration & Integration

Lead data migration planning and execution between legacy and new systems.

Perform data export/import (Data Pump), logical and physical migration, and format conversions.

Integrate databases with other enterprise systems (e.g., middleware, APIs, reporting tools).

Performance Tuning & Optimization

Tune SQL queries, schema design, and system parameters to meet project SLAs.

Conduct load testing and performance benchmarking in pre-prod environments.

Work with developers to optimize application-database interaction.

Security & Compliance

Implement security best practices: encryption (TDE), access control, and audit policies.

Ensure databases meet compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, ISO, internal audit).

Work with security teams to complete risk assessments during delivery phases.

Automation & DevOps Alignment

Develop scripts (SQL, PL/SQL, Bash) for build, refresh, and deployment automation.

Integrate database provisioning and updates into CI/CD pipelines where applicable.

Support Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives in cloud-based projects.

Cutover & Go-Live Support

Lead database readiness assessments and final data synchronisation prior to go-live.

Provide hypercare support during and post-implementation.

Ensure rollback and recovery plans are in place for cutover.

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

Produce detailed build books, handover guides, and runbooks for support teams.

Document migration paths, cloud configurations, tuning actions, and DR/HA setup.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with project managers, application teams, cloud architects, and vendors.

Provide status updates, risk/issue logs, and contribute to change control boards.
