Job Description

As an Optomechanical Engineer at Digantara, you will be a part of a team that is redefining space safety and sustainability by delivering real-time insights for secure and sustainable use of Earth's orbits. Your role will involve developing innovative optomechanical designs for telescope systems and high-precision optical assemblies for both terrestrial and space applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the mechanical and optical integration meets stringent mission objectives. Your responsibilities will also include conducting feasibility studies, utilizing CAD software, performing structural and thermal FEA, managing vendor relationships, and preparing technical documentation. **Key Responsibilities:** - Develop innovative optomechanical designs for telescope systems and high-precision optical assemblies for terrestrial and space applications. - Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define project requirements and design constraints. - Conduct feasibility studies, technical risk assessments, sensitivity, tolerance, and deformation analysis. - Utilize CAD software for detailed modeling, mechanical layouts, and technical documentation. - Conduct structural and thermal FEA for optomechanical trade studies. - Select components, materials, and manufacturing processes for robust and reliable mounting of precision optics. - Develop procedures for optical alignment, system assembly, and verification testing. - Manage vendor relationships for fabrication, procurement, and quality inspection of components. - Engage in prototyping, integration, and testing to refine designs and validate performance. - Prepare technical reports, assembly/test procedures, and design specifications. **Qualifications:** - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. - 2-3 years of experience in optomechanical design for high-precision instrumentation. - Proficiency in mechanical design principles, structural mechanics, and GD&T. - Experience in classical mechanics calculations and FEA software. - Knowledge of thermal management and its impact on optical performance. - Familiarity with metrology/alignment techniques for optical assemblies. - Strong documentation, report writing, and design review skills. **Preferred Qualities:** - Hands-on experience with manufacturing drawings and release documentation. - Knowledge of machining processes, advanced materials, and space-qualified components. - Familiarity with optical system performance metrics and integration/testing. - Understanding of quality control, inspection methods, and technical supplier evaluation.
