The importance of salt in our body is often a debatable topic. While some believe that salt is the reason behind high blood sugar in individuals, others argue that it offers multiple benefits to the body. According to Pooja, the human body loses essential electrolytes - such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium - every time we urinate, cry, or sweat. Therefore, merely drinking plain water may not suffice as it does not help in replenishing these lost electrolytes. This can lead to dehydration, lightheadedness, muscular cramps, and fatigue. Referencing a study published in the International Society of Sports Nutrition, Pooja highlighted that adding electrolytes, particularly sodium, to water aids in the body's absorption and retention of water, thus enabling cellular hydration. She recommends adding a pinch of mineral-rich salt, such as pink salt, Himalayan salt, or curry namak, to your water bottle for better hydration. Furthermore, Pooja addressed the misconception surrounding salt intake and its association with high blood pressure, heart attacks, and water retention. Contrary to popular belief, she emphasized the importance of natural, mineral-rich salt for the body's proper functioning. While excess refined salt in processed foods can be harmful, low sodium levels may lead to fatigue, dizziness, and cognitive decline. Pooja concluded that instead of demonizing salt, it is crucial to focus on the quality and balance of salt intake. Swapping refined table salt for sea salt or Himalayan pink salt can be beneficial. She stressed the importance of listening to your body and maintaining a balanced approach towards salt consumption for overall well-being.,
