The Department of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is excited to announce multiple openings in a new research lab led by Dr. Tan Xuan, starting in August 2025. The lab aims to advance cooperative intelligence through rational, model-based artificial intelligence engineering. We are seeking applications from individuals interested in joining as PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, or visiting students in this dynamic and interdisciplinary research setting. Ideal candidates may come from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cognitive Science, and Computational Linguistics. The research topics of interest in this lab encompass various areas such as modeling and engineering human-like cooperative agents, developing cooperative infrastructure for human-human and human-machine interactions, exploring applications of rational cooperative AI, and utilizing probabilistic programming and model-based planning for safe AI. Applicants should demonstrate a keen interest or experience in one or more of the aforementioned research topics. A strong academic background in a relevant field is essential. For PhD applicants, eligibility for the NUS Computer Science PhD program is required as per departmental guidelines. Postdoctoral and research assistant applicants with relevant research experience and publication records are preferred.
