Senior Backend / Realtime Engineer (GCP • Node.js • Firebase) About the role Own the backend for a real-time ETA (dairy/food collection to warehouse/coldstorage), multi-tenant platform that streams live location data and delivers accurate ETAs at scale. Youll design and build reliable, and scalable; low-latency services, keep third-party API costs in check, and mentor team. What you'll do Design and implement a multi-tenant backend (orgs devices ordered stops). Build real-time pipelines: ingest batched GPS updates, validate/rate-limit, publish to subscribers. Compute ETA updates efficiently (mix of client-side progress + selective server recalculation). Keep costs predictable for maps/routing APIs (batching, caching, cadence control, budgets/alerts). Write secure access controls and data rules; prevent cross-tenant access. Ship with strong observability (structured logs, dashboards, alerts) and automated tests. Review PRs, set coding standards, and guide dev team. Must-have skills 5+ years backend experience building real-time or event-driven systems in production. Node.js + TypeScript with a framework like NestJS or Express. Hands-on with Google Cloud : serverless functions, containerized services, pub/sub messaging, secret management, monitoring. Firebase : Auth, Firestore/NoSQL, Realtime listeners, and security rules or equivalent experience with AWS/Supabase + websockets. Practical integration with routing/ETA APIs (Google Maps) and strong cost-control habits. Solid grasp of idempotency, backpressure, batching, retry policies, and data modeling. Nice to have Postgres/PostGIS or other SQL ; Redis Experience sharding workloads, running load tests, and tuning cold-start/latency. OSRM/Valhalla basics, Terraform, Sentry, BigQuery/Looker Prior work on mobility, logistics, ride-hailing, delivery, or transit.
