We are looking to hire a NEUROLOGIST with outstanding medical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, the central nervous system, and other body systems. Neurologists are expected to have excellent problem-solving and clinical decision-making skills with the ability to communicate effectively to patients and staff. To ensure success, Neurologist should have fantastic organizational and time management skills, and superb practical and diagnostic skills. Top candidates will be familiar with research methods and have a willingness to keep up to date with advances in treatments. Neurologist Responsibilities : Diagnosing complex medical problems by referring to a patient’s history, examining them, and conducting neurological tests. Counseling patients on neurological disorders and their background. Ordering neurological tests and interpreting the results of neuroimaging studies. Prescribing and/or administering treatment and medication. Monitoring the behavioral and cognitive side effects of treatment and medication. Ordering supportive care services for patients. Participating in neuroscience research activities. Liaising with medical professionals in the community and hospitals. Keeping up-to-date with neurological developments, treatments, and medication. Performing specialized treatments such as sleep disorders, neuroimmunology, neuro-oncology, behavioral neurology, and neurogenetics. Performing and interpreting lumbar punctures, electroencephalography, electromyography, and nerve conduction velocity tests. EDUCATION REQUIRED. MD OR DM NEUROLOGY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. 1 YEAR MINIMUM JOB LOCATION. The successful applicant will use a range of neuroimaging techniques (e.g., EEG, MEG and/or fMRI) to investigate the role of sleep in forgetting traumatic memories. They will join Professor Cairney’s lab and contribute to experimental design, data collection, analysis and dissemination, as well as the mentorship of other lab members working on this and related projects. Neuroimaging is a central component of this project so experience of using one or more of EEG, MEG or fMRI is essential. Knowledge of research in the fields of memory, sleep and/or emotion regulation is desirable. The role is expected to start on 1st October 2025 although a later start may be possible. Role Working across the Department of Psychology and York Neuroimaging Centre, you will use a range of neuroimaging techniques to make new discoveries about sleep’s role in memory and forgetting. You will play aleading role in the research team, making a major contribution to data collection (including nap and overnight studies), analysis and interpretation, as well as the dissemination of findings through journal articles and conference presentations. Collaborating with internal and external partners, you will contribute to joint research projects on related topics and support the mentorship and supervision of other staff and students. You will support the development and production of new research in the fields of sleep, memory and emotion regulation, and contribute to public engagement in that research. Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed A PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience or a related subject (or near completion). Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies that are relevant to the project’s objectives. Experience with one or more of the following neuroimaging techniques: EEG, MEG or fMRI. Programming skills in a relevant language (e.g., R, Python). Excellent written communication skills in order to contribute effectively to the production of research reports and publications. Competency to make presentations at conferences or exhibit work at other appropriate events. Ability to develop internal and external contacts in order to enhance knowledge and understanding and form relationships for future collaboration.
