Job Role To lead and manage the overall Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) functions of the fertilizer manufacturing plant, including township and labour colony areas. The role ensures statutory compliance, sustainable operations, environmental protection, occupational health, and a robust safety culture across all levels of the organization. Job Description A. Safety Management Develop, implement, and sustain the EHS management system in line with company standards and statutory requirements. Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and ensure effective implementation of control measures. Enforce safe work practices for handling hazardous chemicals, high-pressure systems, material handling, and process operations. Supervise critical permit systems LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, and Work at Height. Ensure proper functioning of firefighting, alarm, and detection systems. B. Environment Management Ensure compliance with GPCB / CPCB guidelines , consent conditions, and environmental legislations. Monitor air, water, and effluent quality and ensure timely submission of reports to authorities. Drive initiatives on waste minimization, green belt development, pollution prevention, and water conservation. Oversee hazardous waste storage, handling, and disposal as per regulatory norms. Implement ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and support audits. C. Occupational Health Oversee occupational health programs, employee medical checkups, and industrial hygiene monitoring. Identify workplace health hazards and implement preventive measures. Coordinate with Occupational Health Centre for first aid, ambulance, and emergency medical response. Conduct awareness sessions on ergonomics, hygiene, and health-related campaigns. D. Statutory Compliance Ensure compliance with Factories Act , Environment Protection Act , Explosives Act , and PESO regulations . Liaise with external agencies DISH, GPCB, PESO, Fire, and Local Administration. Maintain all statutory records, reports, and registers as required. Conduct EHS committee meetings as per statutory norms. E. EHS in Township & Labour Colony Ensure safety, sanitation, and environmental standards in township and labour colony areas. Oversee waste disposal, water quality, electrical safety, and fire prevention in residential zones. Promote hygiene, health awareness, and housekeeping drives among residents. F. Training & Awareness Prepare and execute annual EHS training calendar for employees, contract workmen, and staff. Conduct EHS induction, refresher training, and mock drills. Encourage participation in safety campaigns, competitions, and behaviour-based safety (BBS) programs. G. Emergency Preparedness Prepare and periodically review On-site & Off-site Emergency Plans. Conduct regular mock drills for fire, gas leakage, and disaster scenarios. Ensure emergency response systems and teams remain in full readiness. H. Audit, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Conduct internal and external EHS audits; monitor compliance of corrective and preventive actions. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses with root cause analysis and preventive recommendations. Submit monthly EHS performance dashboards to management. Drive continuous improvement through observation rounds and suggestion schemes. Technical / Functional Skills & Competencies: Comprehensive understanding of EHS laws and standards applicable to fertilizer / chemical industries. Knowledge of HAZOP, Risk Assessment, Process Safety Management, and ISO 14001 / 45001 systems. Proficiency in MS Office, EHS reporting systems, and data analytics. Analytical mindset with proactive problem-solving approach. Integrity, discipline, and commitment to safety-first culture. Educational Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical / Mechanical / Environmental / Electrical Engineering with Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized by State Technical Board). Industry Experience: Minimum 12–15 years in EHS roles within a fertilizer / chemical / process manufacturing plant , including exposure to township and labour colony operations.
