The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Research Group at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, is seeking applications for a PhD research position focused on investigating the thermal performance of nanofluids using machine learning modeling techniques. The research aims to enhance heat transfer efficiency through the exploration of multiphase turbulent modeling, nanoparticle shape effects, and innovative approaches in nanofluid heat transfer. The project will involve conducting CFD simulations to analyze fluid flow, convective heat transfer, and nanoparticle dispersion. Additionally, machine learning techniques will be utilized to optimize performance across varying operating conditions. The successful candidate will be involved in developing high-fidelity CFD models integrated with data-driven machine learning frameworks to predict and improve heat transfer characteristics for applications in thermal management, energy systems, and cooling technologies. Eligibility and Fellowship Details: This research position is supported by the institute's research fellowship program and is open to candidates holding either Masters or Bachelors degrees. Candidates with the following educational backgrounds are eligible to apply: - Masters degree (M.Tech/M.E/M.Sc) in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field such as Applied Mathematics. - Bachelors degree (B.Tech/B.E) in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Automobile Engineering. Fellowship details and research support options are as follows: - For Masters degree holders: A fellowship of 31,000 per month for the first year, increasing to 35,000 per month for the second and third years (total duration: three years). - For Bachelors degree holders: A fellowship of 21,000 per month for the first two years, increasing to 30,000 per month for the third and fourth years (total duration: four years). Additionally, the institute offers a Raman Research Award of up to 1 lakh for outstanding research publications and provides funding support for conference presentations and journal publications. Preferred Skills: - Proficiency with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent and OpenFOAM. - Strong programming skills in MATLAB, C, and Python. - Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
