Job Description

  • Prepare and position patients for MRI scans, explaining procedures and answering questions to reduce anxiety
  • Screen patients for safety (metal implants, pacemakers, claustrophobia, pregnancy, etc.) using detailed questionnaires and checklists
  • Select appropriate imaging parameters/protocols based on the physicians order and patient condition
  • Operate MRI scanners and associated equipment (coils, injectors, monitoring devices)
  • Administer intravenous (IV) contrast agents when required (if certified)
  • Monitor patients throughout the scan via audio/video systems and physiologic monitors
  • Ensure image quality meets diagnostic standards; repeat sequences if necessary
  • Perform daily/weekly quality control and safety checks on the MRI scanner
  • Maintain accurate patient records in RIS/PACS systems
  • Follow strict MRI safety protocols (Zone I–IV restrictions, ferromagnetic detection, quench procedures)
  • Clean and stock scan rooms; manage inventory of coils, contrast, and supplies
  • Assist radiologists with protocol development or advanced imaging (functional MRI, cardiac MRI, etc.)
  • Participate in emergency response (code blue, contrast reactions, quench events)
