As a Blood Bank Technician, you will be responsible for performing routine technical procedures in the blood bank following orientation to the department's policies, procedures, and equipment. Your primary duties will include conducting day-to-day quality control checks to ensure the reliability of testing procedures, proper function of blood bank equipment, and compliance with federal regulations. It will be essential to maintain accurate records and checklists to document these quality control checks. You will also be tasked with managing the inventory of material supplies and equipment to ensure the smooth performance of daily work activities. Effective communication with patients, their families, and other medical personnel will be a crucial aspect of your role. This includes obtaining information for blood bank records, explaining procedures, clarifying orders, and providing status updates as needed. Collaboration with the Technical Supervisor is key to maintaining a positive work environment and supporting your career growth. Adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP) for all tests, as well as daily and monthly quality checks, will be essential. You will also be responsible for routine maintenance of equipment, troubleshooting issues, and resourcefully using reagents to minimize wastage. Additionally, your responsibilities will involve testing for blood group antigens, compatibility, and antibody identification. You may be required to investigate abnormalities such as hemolytic diseases of the newborn, hemolytic anemias, and adverse reactions to transfusions. Supporting physicians in transfusion therapy for patients with coagulopathies or candidates for organ and cellular transplantation/therapy will also be part of your role. Your teamwork skills will be crucial in maintaining cordial relations with all colleagues and healthcare providers. Furthermore, you will be involved in blood collection and processing, which includes selecting donors, collecting blood, typing blood, and conducting molecular testing. This is a full-time position with a rotational shift schedule, and the work location is in person.
