Role Summary As a Principal Engineer (Modelling) within our Water Team, you will provide leadership and technical support on waste water/urban drainage modelling projects to ensure accurate and efficient project delivery for internal and external clients. Structural Analysis & Design Validation: Perform detailed stress analysis of structural components and assemblies using both hand calculations and advanced computational tools (e.g., Finite Element Analysis, or FEA). Ensure the design meets the required safety margins under different loading conditions (e.g., aerodynamic, thermal, mechanical, and operational loads). Conduct fatigue, damage tolerance, and ultimate strength analysis to determine material performance and life expectancy. Development of GFEM and DFEM for structural components Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Ensure designs comply with relevant aviation standards and regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA, MIL-STD, ARP-4754, etc.). Review certification requirements and provide necessary documentation for airworthiness approval. Collaborative Design Development: Work closely with design engineers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to integrate stress analysis findings into product development. Suggest design modifications to optimize performance and reduce weight, cost, or complexity while ensuring structural integrity. Assist in the review of material selection and manufacturing processes to align with structural performance requirements. Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, analysis documents, and presentations to communicate findings to both internal and external stakeholders. Maintain up-to-date records of analysis methods, assumptions, and results. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and techniques in stress analysis and aerospace structural engineering. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for issues identified during testing or post-production. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or higher is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 3-7 years of experience in stress analysis and structural design, preferably in the aerospace or aerostructures industry. Hands-on experience with FEA tools (e.g., NASTRAN, Hypermesh) and proficiency in structural analysis software. Familiarity with aerospace materials and their properties (composites, metals, alloys). Skills: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and engineering drawings. Solid understanding of structural mechanics, vibration analysis, and thermal analysis. Knowledge of aerospace standards and certification processes. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and engineering-related software. Excellent communication skills to explain complex engineering concepts to cross-functional teams Digital skills (like VBA, Python, etc) for post processing the results and loads data handling. Desirable Attributes: Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with multiple stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills with a practical approach to design challenges.
