The Software Tech Lead Mirth Integration is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering robust healthcare data integration solutions using Mirth Connect and related Java technologies. This role provides architectural and technical leadership to cross-functional development teams while ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and compliant with healthcare data standards. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in healthcare interoperability, interface development, multi-tenant architecture, and real-time messaging systems. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Design, develop, and execute scalable and secure software solutions that address key business and clinical exchange needs. Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to product, engineering, QA, and DevOps teams. Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and frameworks to drive software quality and performance. Translate business and technical requirements into sound software designs and implementation strategies. Collaborate with QA, product management, operations, and external partners to deliver integrated healthcare solutions. Design, build, and maintain healthcare interfaces using Mirth Connect , supporting standards such as HL7 (v2/v3), FHIR, CCD/CCDA, DICOM , and IHE profiles . Develop and maintain secure API integrations with external systems and EHR/EMR platforms. Implement and support PGP encryption , unzipping , and other custom message transformation processes using Mirth JavaScript/Java . Ensure compliance with interoperability frameworks like SMART on FHIR , USCDI , and TEFCA . Guide efforts around performance optimization, scalability planning, and troubleshooting of integration pipelines. Contribute to continuous improvement of Agile development processes and architectural best practices. Required Skills & Experience 10+ years of hands-on experience with Mirth Connect/NextGen Connect , Java, and integration development. Strong expertise in healthcare data exchange standards: HL7, FHIR, CCDA, DICOM , and IHE profiles . Experience in designing and maintaining multi-tenant, multi-threaded, high-scalability applications . Solid experience with API integration , including RESTful web services and OAuth2/OpenID Connect. Proven knowledge of PGP encryption , secure file handling, and scripting using Java/JavaScript in Mirth. Strong grasp of Agile/Scrum methodologies and relational database design (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres). Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems and regulations such as HIPAA , USCDI , and TEFCA . Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams and external partners. Experience in monitoring, debugging, and optimizing integration performance. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of healthcare interoperability frameworks like SMART on FHIR and IHE XDS/XCA . Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern deployment techniques (Docker, Kubernetes). Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines , version control (e.g., Git), and automated testing. Familiarity with design patterns such as Clean Architecture , 12-Factor Apps , and service-oriented architecture . Soft Skills Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders. Self-starter with a proactive mindset and strong ownership.
