Job Description

Job Summary:

Metallurgy Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and select suitable materials for valve components (body, bonnet, trim, etc.) based on service conditions, customer specifications, and applicable standards (API, ASME, ASTM, NACE, ISO).
  • Prepare and review

    Material Specifications

    ,

    Material Test Reports (MTRs)

    ,

    Heat Treatment Records

    , and

    Mechanical Test Reports

    .
  • Assist in development, qualification, and approval of

    Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)

    and

    Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)

    , ensuring metallurgical compatibility and performance.
  • Support and validate

    NACE MR0175/ISO 15156

    compliance for sour service valves.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and suppliers to ensure raw materials and forgings meet chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical requirements.
  • Conduct

    failure analysis

    ,

    root cause investigations

    , and recommend corrective/preventive actions for metallurgical issues (e.g., cracking, corrosion, hardness non-conformance).
  • Monitor and control heat treatment processes (e.g., normalizing, tempering, solution annealing) and verify compliance through metallurgical and mechanical testing.
  • Support API audits, customer visits, and third-party inspections with technical and metallurgical documentation.
  • Provide training and technical support to welding, quality, and production teams regarding metallurgy and materials.

Requirements:

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline (Masters degree is an advantage).
  • Additional certifications in welding metallurgy, NDT, or API-related standards are desirable.

Experience:

  • 3–8 years of experience in

    valve manufacturing

    , pressure equipment, or related industry.
  • Familiarity with

    API standards

    (e.g., API 600, API 6D, API 598),

    ASME B16.34

    , and relevant

    ASTM

    material specifications.
  • Hands-on experience in material selection, failure analysis, and quality documentation.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of

    ferrous and non-ferrous alloys

    , heat treatment effects, corrosion behavior, and mechanical properties.
  • Familiarity with

    material traceability systems

    ,

    MTC formats

    , and

    QMS documentation

    .
  • Good understanding of

    NACE, IBR, PED

    , and international standards related to metallurgy.
  • Proficiency in metallurgical lab operations, hardness testing, microstructure analysis, and report generation.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Exposure to

    casting

    ,

    forging

    , and

    machining

    processes.
  • Experience in

    low-temperature

    and

    high-pressure

    service material selection.
  • Understanding of

    coating, plating, and surface treatment

    technologies used in valve manufacturing.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and shop-floor environment; occasional lab work and supplier visits.
  • May be required to travel for material audits or customer technical discussions.
