We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior MEP Design Engineer with a proven track record of 10+ years in designing Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, with a particular specialization in underground services for large-scale Metro rail projects. The successful candidate will be a key member of our engineering team, responsible for leading the design, coordination, and technical oversight of complex MEP systems within tunnels, underground stations, ancillary buildings, and other subterranean infrastructure. This role demands a deep understanding of relevant codes, standards, and best practices specific to metro environments, as well as a strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant designs. Key Responsibilities: Lead MEP Design: Take ownership of the complete MEP design lifecycle for underground metro projects, including conceptual design, detailed design, calculations, specifications, and drawings for: Mechanical Systems: Tunnel ventilation systems (TVS), station ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) for underground spaces, smoke extraction systems, fire suppression systems (e.g., sprinklers, deluge, gas suppression), pumping stations (sump pumps, drainage), and plumbing systems (water supply, drainage, sewage). Electrical Systems: High voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) power distribution, traction power interface, lighting systems (emergency and general), earthing and lightning protection, cable management systems, standby power generation (diesel generators, UPS), and integration with SCADA systems. Plumbing Systems: Potable water distribution, drainage, sewage networks, and fire water mains within underground structures. Underground Service Specialization: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and practical experience in designing MEP systems for confined and challenging underground environments, considering factors such as: Tunnel ventilation and air flow dynamics. Waterproofing and drainage solutions in subterranean spaces. Fire life safety in tunnels and underground stations. Emergency egress and ventilation strategies. Integration with civil and structural designs for underground structures. Corrosion protection and material selection for harsh underground conditions. Technical Expertise & Calculations: Perform complex engineering calculations, load estimations, equipment sizing, and system simulations using industry-standard software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, ETAP, Dialux, HAP, etc.). Code Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to relevant national and international building codes, metro specific standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE, BIS, IEC, local municipal codes). Coordination & Collaboration: Work closely with architects, civil/structural engineers, railway system engineers, fire safety consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of MEP systems within the overall metro project. Actively participate in inter-disciplinary coordination meetings and resolve design conflicts. Documentation & Reporting: Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, design reports, drawings (single line diagrams, layouts, schematics, elevations), bill of quantities (BOQ), and other project documentation. Vendor & Contractor Management: Provide technical support during procurement, review vendor submissions (e.g., shop drawings, material submittals), and liaise with contractors during construction, testing, and commissioning phases. Site Support & Problem Solving: Conduct site visits, provide technical assistance, resolve design-related issues, and propose practical solutions during construction. Quality Assurance: Implement robust quality control measures to ensure design accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements. Mentorship & Leadership: Guide and mentor junior engineers and drafting teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Innovation & Value Engineering: Proactively identify opportunities for design optimization, energy efficiency improvements, and cost reduction through value engineering. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university. Masters degree in a relevant engineering discipline is a plus. Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is highly desirable. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in MEP design, with at least 5 years specifically focused on underground services for Metro or similar large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., tunnels, underground transportation hubs). Demonstrated experience with design software such as AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, Navisworks, ETAP, Dialux, HAP, etc. Strong understanding of BIM (Building Information Modeling) principles and workflows. Excellent knowledge of national and international codes, standards, and regulations related to MEP systems in underground environments. Proven ability to lead and manage complex MEP design packages. Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Desired Attributes: Experience with international metro projects.
